In reality his retort to you was probably inspired by his lack of physical ability and in turn felt threatened when physical ability was the topic of conversation.

In the face of adversity, the only logical response is to fight that stereotype as hard as you can. Be a straight-A pothead, even. And of course, the most important thing we can do is keep ourselves informed of the facts behind the DARE myths so that we can dispell them when confronted.

Most people don't know I smoke, and I guess they really wouldn't expect that I would either. Usually when I hear someone's anti-drug speech, they think I'd agree with them, because they couldn't even begin to fathom that any smart/normal person would smoke weed and not turn into some degenerate.

When I do run into problems, I usually school people on why weed isn't so bad, and if they still won't shut up about it, I'll just move on. Unfortunately, no matter how much everyone tries, some people just refuse to open their minds to something they see as illegal and dangerous.

A few weeks ago in one of my classes, my professor broke us up into groups to discuss our project ideas. I had already decided to study the history of cannabis and how/why/when it was made illegal. I listened to everyone else in my group, and provided feedback even on the stupidest of ideas. After I shared my topic, one girl in the group made a comment under her breath: "She might as well be studying the history of crack." Later, when one person from the group had to report everyone's ideas to the professor, the same girl listed everyone's ideas, and again said that I would be studying "...the history of crack -- I mean cannabis." The whole class heard her. What a bitch!! Maybe in 5th grade her DARE officer told her that marijuana was just as bad as every other drug out there, but seriously - I would expect a little more maturity from a college student. The least she could've done was be respectful, especially since my project is going to kick some serious ass.
