Keep in mind what darque said...the offical view on marijuana isn't as liberal as it was a few months back. Thingzs are getting to be more conservative. From what I understand, although more linient than the US, Canada is nothing like Amsterdam. if it were comparable, we'd all know it by now. Theer may be shops where you can purchase it, but, in all reality, there are shops in most US cities that sell weed, albeit not legally. Remember the "bodega" scene in half-baked? those places actually exist in many places. I have a friend from NY who used to score at a corner store all the time. Amsterdam is one a whole other level than either Canada or the US though. AS much as Vancuver wants to be the new Amsterdam, they have a LONG ways to go before the two are really comparable. First of all, Cnaada needs to legalize weed, which they haven't done. That fact alone cis a buig distinction between the two places.

Actually I've read a few stories of people preferring BC to Amsterdam, not because weed is legal, but because it is a better pot-smoking community.

And Canada and the US absolutely do not compare legally when it comes to weed. One time when I was Downtown for a night of smoking and off-topics, I met this couple from New Jersey, and they were incredibly sketchy about smoking in the alley behind the pub, even though I've done it at least a dozen times, and haven't even been confronted by the employees, much less the cops. They told us this story about how one of their friends got arrested with 1 gram. I tried to comfort them by letting them know that I've been publicly smoking for over 2 years, and I haven't even gotten talked to by a cop.

I live in Toronto (usually) and I know of this sort of pot 'religion' that you can join, and once a member you can buy pot, hash, oil - pretty much everything pot-related - for pretty cheap.

I'm not sure if weed was decriminalized... I've heard a lot of stories. I think they were going to decriminalize it, but didn't go through with it. Cops here seem to be pretty lenient about possession though, I've had friends caught with a half-O and they just got a stern talking to and their pot taken away.

As for cafes in Toronto, they exist. I've been to one. You aren't allowed to buy or sell there, but if you bring your own (and buy some food) you're allowed to just chill out and blaze. Pretty sweeeeet

I used to go to Vancouver all the time and yes it is like that at least when I was going, but I left that area in 98 so it’s been a while. But one of the places was Hemp BC, Which was a grow shop that had all kinds of books and you could read all day and smoke. There was a bar across the street that you could get massive amounts of bud and I mean massive amounts, if you wanted pounds that was now problem they always had a few trash cans full. And it was the best bud to, you could order seeds up there to I still have a seed menu from one of the stores in Vancouver. But that area in Vancouver is called gas town and it is down town. I love that place and would love to move there. My favorite city in the world.

Dude, weed isn't decriminalized.

Secondly, any shops sell weed in Canada would be just like any other dealer, but one who happens to own a shop in which to operate

And why do people go to Amsterdam? Because it is legal, and you can't get fined or go to jail for using and posessing the drug.

The decriminilization bill might not have passed, but if you get caught with under 15 grams you get a fine, you don't get arrested.

Most times they won't even fine you in Canada. It is VERY RARE to be arrested for under an ounce of weed here in Canada. Hell, the Vancouver Police have even stated that Marijuana is their lowest priority and do not enforce the laws on it.

Hahaha! Funking awesome! Hotbox Cafe forever! I wish I still lived in TO permanently - I'd be there allll the time.

Also in Toronto there's the Bloor Cinema which shows Dark Side of The Moon regularly, and the theatre owners let people blaze inside when they show it. The whole theatre gets hotboxed! SOO good.
