To start, I am 17 years old, live in Grand Rapids, Michigan and got an MIP on August 28. I have been talking to some people and they said I got a really unfair sentence and I should probably appeal, but I'd like to hear what some of you guys think. I was brought to the police station to get breathalized by my parents when they smelled alcohol on me when I came home at about 10 oclock. When I got there I blew a .048 and was given a ticket for an MIP. Now, this is the first thing on my record besides a red light traffic violation. I went to court on Sept. 7 and was sentenced to 20 hours of community service, $240 worth of fines, I have to find a part-time job by Oct. 13 or I spend 15 days in jail and have to repeat my jr year of high school, and I cant have any absenses in school for the whole year. The judge also asked me if I had any friends I drank with so I gave him 3 names. He said I cant have contact with those 3 friends in school or out, even though they weren't even with me when I got it. What are your opinions, should I appeal with a different judge or just leave it alone?

I think that really sucks your parents took you to the police station instead of handling this themselves.
And I would not have given any names to them.
As far as another judge I think your stuck with what you got and will likely not get anything better in your situation.

Yes, this would be considered off-topic, as the entire post was referring to alcohol with no reference whatsoever to marijuana.
This would apply to alcohol too.
