I used to always think of how i would be such a cool dad and let my kids do whatever they wanted to. But as I think about it more, things have changed. I am still a long way from having kids, but i've thought about it a lot.
I definately do not want to be a parent who is extrememly uptight about dank and flip a bitch if I caught my kid. But on the other hand I dont want to allow my kids to smoke at my house or help them get it. Because I have seen what happens when parents do that, and the kids are all fuck ups. My friend is in that same situation and has like a 1.2 GPA. He might be having hella fun now, but I know he won't be succesful in the least bit in his life.
However like I stated early, I dont want to be a square ass pig who monitors their kids life. So if I caught my kid with drugs, I would not punish them, but i wouldnt encourage it.
But if he's in highschool with a lot of success in school, and will be going to college i think i would let it slide. Because my other friends brother was/is responsible about it and is going to dartmouth.

I guess this is all just coming out because i have parents who punished the shit out of me when they caught me. It's never been the same relationship between us and I hate it. I just don't want my kid being in the same situation.

Does anyone else ever think about this type of shit?

im 19. im an only child. i lived with my mom until i was 15. i was a bit of a fuck up, but my cousins were far worse, im the good one.

so at 15 my mom said id have to go live with my dad in miami. i was cool with my dad but not really tight.

so i moved to miami. it was odd because my dad was a lawyer but back then i wasnt even into smoking. then i started hanging with new people who i thought were like me, and we all started smokign together, they had before but not in a long time. so it was kinda cool i was trying new things with new people.

then a few years later when im 18 my dad caught me. his father died from a overdose, his best friend wa skilled over it. he was mad at me for sure, but he said he was more scared of what would happen from things ASSOCIATED with it, not smoking.

as a parent i cant imagine what worry you can feel as your responsible for another life. but what can you do really? you know parents always say "dont do this because i did it and i know what will happen" but we do these things anyway because everyone has to find out for themselves.

i cant give a definitive answer on how to handle this situation because ive never been in it, but from my perspective, i respect my father and im glad he told me what he did and how his experience with drugs affected his reacation to wha ti wa sdoing.

im now 19 and i live on my own. i smoke weed, i work and i go to school. i wouldnt say it hasnt had bad effects on me but i will say that no matter how much my dad said not to do it, if i know i can get away with it im going to do it.

out of sight out of mind right?

It suck the relationship with your parents was affected. The secaret is don't lie or keep things from them. If they ask bout pot tell them good and bad. Thats for everthing in life.

I do. In fact I just thought about it the other day. When I told my mom I smoked weed, just last year, she puts it down anyway she can.

Me: My face is breaking out a lot lately.
Mom: Maybe it's the weed!

So I tell myself this now. I agree I don't want to put my children down but I don't want them to...choose the wrong path. When it comes to marijuana, I want to sit down with my children, talk to them about it, educate them about it and the choices that go with it. But I will say this, as long as they live in my house they will live by my rules. Spare the rod, spoil the child.

But I am still a child myself, so I have much to learn.


One other thing I just thought of, no matter how much you may tell your children "don't do this, or that" sometimes you have to let them experience things for themselves, because experience at times is the best teacher.

You sound alot older. I have kids and I smoke. I to want diffrent for them but you do have to make your own mistakes or eles how would you learn. Parents will always say"Do as I say' Not as I do". Good luck

Thank you, mid twenties here. It is a very hard thing to judge what I might say to my child, seeing as how I don't have any
But your right about the last part. The older I become the more I realize why parents try to "tell" their children what to and not to do, but yet I didn't learn from some of the things I did, until I DID them. heh.

i dont want my kids to smoke till they are like 16 or something but ill get them free weed like every 2 weeks because i know how it goes how smokers spend a lot of their money on bud.

*Well you all make good points: there is a problem with being too lazee-faire with your children. Don't go chokin with your kids--it's important to keep that line drawn. Besides---when you're high you don't want to have to listen to the same type of music they (younger) listen to when you're older. Be a parent --not a hookup--for them. They will find their own. But mos definitely tell/explain to them the pitfalls to avoid that involve the issue: 1) light weight sacs from unscurpulous dealers, 2) poor quality herb from dealers who will try to sell of their aged,low quality stash to whom they percieve to be less saavy herb consumers/users.
