a 4 hour drive? That's not anything bad. Quite frankly I think you are making too big of a deal about this. How old are you? You can't put up with your family for 4 days, and, *gasps* 4 HOURS in the car, both ways? Just learn to enjoy the company you have. Shit enjoy the new scenery when you go there, enjoy nature, enjoy your family and friends, enjoy life. Meet new people and have a blast. If you make the best of it I guarantee you won't regret it.

Uh, guys, the four hour ride and four days wasn't the original poster. The original poster was going for two weeks, and he's from Toronto going as far as Halifax. An 18 hour car ride straight by the most direct route, which he won't be taking. He won't be spending that much time in the car straight, granted. But he'll be spending more time than that in the car in total, especially since they need to drive back. That's a long time to be in a car.

And also, if you're not 16 and the itinerary for your trip looks like your just going to be visiting your mom's old friends, then the chances of you being let go to go wherever you want are not the highest. I know when I was younger than 16, I would have had no interest in meeting MY mom's old friends. And two weeks on the go can be a lot of time shared with your family if you're not really doing anything exciting.

If they were going hiking? Awesome, the guy's set. Going to go to the beach? Sweet deal. But going around to people's houses that you've never met, are at least twice your age, and you're essentially just going to sit there while they talk about things that you have no clue about (often times even if you DO have a clue about it and want to contribute to the conversation, because, oh, what do YOU know? YOU'RE just a kid. "That's nice, dear...")? That gets boring fast.

Looking at the scenery as you're driving past? As someone who's been on a lot of LONG road trips in a variety of settings, some of which I had never seen before, it tends to get repetetive. Sometimes you'll see some really cool mountains, or a breathtaking view of a valley, or a beautiful field with gorgeous wildflowers, or something. But most of the time you're on highway and it's generic landscape for where you are. Nothing particularly exciting about this. Maybe if you weren't speeding by at 60 mph (or 96 km/h, respectively), but you are. It's interesting when you get OFF the highway, but not while you're on it.

So be fair to the guy. He just wanted a little bit of help to eat up some of that massive amount of time. Instead you guys come crashing down on him.

booooring.
yeah, i wasn't the OP,
and i wrote that when i wasn't in the best mood, sorry.
but i've got reason to not be so happy -

i'll be spending the time with my (very, very) materialistic cousin, and she's only like 12. she just had her birthday and was hoping to get a COACH bag (she's 12!) on top of that, i'll have to maybe baby sit her one night...

i do however, love my parents, i was just in a really bad mood.

My apologies to the OP, and thanks ITG for pointing that out. My stance still stays on that certain subject though.
