| Here is the article, its a shame what authority has come to. All power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. http://www.ksl.com/?nid=148&sid=1444771 ------------------------------------------------------- Here is another article on New york surveillance (street camaras, like london)that will take affect soon. http://www.nytimes.com/2007/07/09/ny...in&oref=slogin “This program marks a whole new level of police monitoring of New Yorkers and is being done without any public input, outside oversight, or privacy protections for the hundreds of thousands of people who will end up in N.Y.P.D. computers," Christopher Dunn, a lawyer with the New York Civil Liberties Union, wrote in an e-mail message. He said he worried about what would happen to the images once they were archived, how they would be used by the police and who else would have access to them." Quote from the article- Oh how your government trusts you! This will end up in every big city eventually, here in California there are street camaras going up at mostly every intersection. I laugh at you if you say they are ONLY for giving tickets. |

| ok, i don't think that the first story is THAT much of an example of 'corrupt power..' just a dumb officer, probably a rookie, that handled the situation in an extreme way. she was released an hour later after the rest of the department had found out what happened... as for the second story, i used to live in london and the cameras there were for safety.. i don't have a problem with them, and my english friends were shocked to find out that we DIDN'T have them, and they liked the fact that london did. sure, it was a little weird at first, but you hardly notice them after a while. and anyway, i don't live anywhere near a big city, i never will, so i'm not bothered.

| Ok I would love the street camera thing. Everday you walk outside you pretend you're on TV. Or you're in an old music video just singing and dancing as you make your way down the sidewalk. Carry around a little recorder of an audience laughing and gasping and all the usuals that way when you bring a girl to her door and she says "So you'll call me tomorrow?" and you respond "Of course" and then she smiles... then you can pretend you have your own little aside where she cant hear you and you turn back to the camera and say "That'll happen!" then the audience cheers and you cut to a commercial break quick because I have to pee. Wow. Righteous. Anyways back in reality thats way to far if you ask me but theres no way I'd move there anyways now I just have one more reason...

| The first story...She did actually break a city ordinance concerning watering her lawn (as stupid as I think that ordinance is, the residents let it go through which means they were the ones with the power) and like was mentioned she was released after an hour in jail and the cop was suspended (which he should have been). So I guess the absolute power that are the cops actually realized the mistake this idiot cop made. The second one...So, we have a right to privacy when we are in public? No one should be able to take your picture if you are walking down a sidewalk? Oh, the Orwellian days are upon us... ![]()

| Here is the definition for those who dont know what Plainsman is talking about. Orwellian describes a situation, idea, or condition that George Orwell identified as being inimical to the welfare of a free-society. An attitude and a policy of control by propaganda, misinformation, denial of truth, and manipulation of the past (including the "unperson"--a person whose past existence is expunged) practiced by modern repressive governments. Often, this includes the situations depicted in his fictional novels, particularly his political novel Nineteen Eighty-Four. Orwell's ideas on personal freedom and state authority developed during his time as a British colonial administrator in Burma. He was fascinated by the effect of colonialism on the individual; it requires accepting the idea that the oppressor exists for one's own good. We are living in the times of misinformation, propaganda and denial of truth-shit...just wach the news ..lol. ![]() |

| French national data and liberties commission (CNIL) warned Monday against a "surveillance society," which "threatens our cardinal protection of data and our liberties. " In its 2006 report published Monday, CNIL's president Alex Turk affirmed that two waves, technological and normative, "today threaten data and liberties authorities which it is meant to protect." "Technological space is constantly on the move, whereas the legal one remains particularly slow," technology tends to become " invisible," and controlling authorities risks being "circumvented, submerged" by the technological wave, notes the report, calling for rethinking of modalities of protecting individual liberties. CNIL also reckons that development of anti-terrorism laws poses a "challenge" for data protection authorities, who must " continuously search for equilibrium between public security concerns and demands for protecting private life and individual information." "Technological innovation is both progressive and dangerous. Individuals are tempted by the comfort it brings along, but few are aware of the risks it carries. They are least bothered by the surveillance of their movements, analysis of their behaviors, their acquaintances, or their tastes," warns CNIL in its report. the link- http://english.people.com.cn/90001/90777/6211443.html |

| What a nuisance! Not watering the lawn... she should be ashamed! jk that sucks though she would get arrested, I guess if it's town law ya gotta do what ya gotta do, though. I think a right to privacy is pretty ridiculous... where'd we see that in the constitution? They're just tryin to ruin neighborly fun. |

| Right to privacy does not apply to common areas. Cameras on public streets constitute common areas. |
