| I've spent a limitted amount of time in West Virginia. It's hard to describe the general people. It's not exactly "hillbilly" , it's closer to "mountain people." Whenever I go to WVA, it's to get away from people, not to meet people . Some of the most beautiful mountainsides are to be seen, and the rivers and lakes are clean enough to drink out of. Even in the Potomac! which is pretty much toxic by the time it reaches DC.

| Small town life is the sh*t! I moved from a small town (14 000 people) to a biggish city (over a million people) and I miss the small town atmosphere A LOT! And in my experience, the people aren't 'different', just friendlier, and more laid back. If it's a really small town everyone will know everyone (even in a town with 14 000 people, I still knew most of them, and ran into people I knew every time we went out). Nothing major ever happens in small towns so everyone feels pretty safe and relaxed, it's just a better atmosphere in my opinion. But to answer your question, meet people where you would normally meet people in a big city, nothing is different. People don't get 'weird' or 'awkward' just because they live in a small town. |

| I live in a small town in California, but it is about 20 minutes away from San Francisco, 25 from Oakland, and around an hour from Sacramento. Small towns are almost always much more beautiful then large cities, but in my case it is hard to beat Northern California, San Fran, and watching the sun set behind the Golden Gate. It's unbelievable how preety it is. Here is one of my favorite smoking spots. It is so nice to just chill in the Marin Headlands, overlooking the entire Bay Area. ![]() |

| i'm from a VERY small town. well, i actually grew up on a farm.. but what i consider my 'hometown' has 150 people in it. my whole county is a very small, rural area... with only two stoplights in the entire COUNTY. there aren't really social norms i guess.. just be polite to everyone because chances are 5 or 6 people will come to the person's defense if need be, simply because everyone knows everyone else (or they're related hahahaha) and you're a 'stranger.' but yeah, we're just like city folk . the bar would definitely be a good place, and probably the only place haha.

| Yeah, smoking with amazing views is so unreal. I love rolling up a nice big blunt, calling some friends, driving up to the Marin Headlands, then turning on the vaporizer in my car because I have a thing that allows me to plug it in, and getting baked! |

| No offense, dude, but if you showed up on my myspace asking about weed, I'd ignore you too! Most people are rather private when it comes to illegal activites. I'd be suspicious as hell of anyone asking me about druigs randomly on mypsace, and you may have well burned some bridges by trying that technique. In a small town, word travels at the speed of light. Theres probably several stoners wondering who the fuck messaged them, and in that small of a town, you very well may have already been discussed among the stoner population as someone to avoid.....I grew up on a ranch and went to school in a town of 500....the drug scene was pretty "down low" and newbies weren't invited into the fold very quickly. Someone obviously trying every avenue to get into the mix would be branded as a suspected narc, and would remain so until it was somehow proven false. Small towns operate on a whole different set of rules. Where everyone knows everyone, people have to watch their back that much more. Small towns are notorious for gossip, and any ongoing illegal activity HAS to be kept quiet. Its not like the city where you can remain somewhat anonymous. There is no such thing as anonymous in a small town! Basically, you'll have to befriend someone who is in the scene with hopes you'll eventually get introduced to the right people. The myspace thing was a BAD idea.....where I grew up, that would send out all kinds of red flags.

I agree 100%. Never go onto myspace and ask people about purchasing anything illegal or write about you doing anything illegal. It is incriminating yourself and you can be thrown in jail for it! Of course, the chances of something bad actually happening from something this small are very rare, but why take the risk? Hang out around parks, skate parks, gas stations (places were stoners get food), or malls. Most important is how you approach someone. Try and get into a conversation about something else first. Then, ask them for a cigerrette or something and progress the conversation until you feel comfortable asking them if they know where you can get any bud. Make sure they know you are new and that you don't know anybody yet. | |
