| So I've got long hair and I'm thinking it's about time to get it trimmed. I've been growing it for 3 years, 2 months and never had it trimmed. So I'm kind of out of the loop with haircuts and stuff. My biggest worry is that they'll take too much off or that I won't like how it looks when it's done. So where would the best place to go be to get this done? Would a barber shop be fine or would I need to go to a salon? http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...g?t=1188653865 That's a pic of my hair as of a few weeks ago. I'd like to cut it to about shoulder length or slightly longer. More like this: ![]() Any advice? Thanks!

| One one hand it's my opinion that women get ripped off on haircuts, but OTOH you can't expect, in general, to get the same quality cut from a barber that deals with guys who come in for a little off the top and a side trim. Back when my hair was longer (but nowhere near as long as yours), I found I got a better cut from a stylist (male or female) than a barber. I'm not saying a barber can't do a good job for you, just that they're not as experienced cutting longer hair. I'd try to get a recommendation from a girl whose hairstyle you like, but damn if I'd pay a hundred bucks or more for a haircut. If you're going to get it cut once a month or so, I'd try to find a barber and train him on how you like it.

| Tell them specifically that you do not want the length shortened too much. Tell him to feather it and just thin it out.

| ^ ![]() That is some nice incentive for a hair cut! Tell me though will it be worth it? I am currently growing my hair out long again. It is past my mouth now, and after having shorter hair for a few years I am back to having a big wig of thick manly hair. I would suggest going somewhere really nice. Obviously the more upscale the more you will pay, but chances are you will get a much nicer/higher quality hair cut. I go to the same place every time to get a trim or maybe a thin every once in a while (probably about due time for one of those now ). I would suggest also maybe bringing in a picture (that one might work) to give them an idea on the look you want. It can really help when they are deciding what to cut, or whatever.... Good luck, let us know how it goes.

| Go with Spiral's advice and take that picture in to show them what you're going for. Also, don't go to one of those cheap ass $8 haircut places or they will fuck up your hair! Spring the extra cash, and go to a salon. I usually pay $40 to get mine done....$30 for the cut, and a $10 tip....expensive but it's definitely worth it, since your just getting a one-time cut.
