Default God, I love being the "neighborhood computer geek" as a stoner.

I already have plenty to go around, but I was sitting here on a beautiful, crisp, sunny Portland afternoon, forum surfing, smoking, blasting music, and reading random blogs. I got a call from a couple blocks down, was a friend, and she'd gotten hit by some malware and asked if I could stop by and take care of it for her. An added perk is that I know she's a smoker, so I figured I'd get a few hits during the system sweep, and I'd probably wind up taking the scenic route home.

I worked on her PC for 15 minutes and got her going again. What a treat! Look what she sent me off with! I'm going to include the picture. Right now I'm reaping the benefits, and I must say, I'm quite pleased with the end result. I receive similar luxuries every couple of weeks or so from different people around here the neighborhood, too!

Anybody else have similar experiences?

Nice, I'm not computer geek but I am pretty handy when it comes to computers. I help a lot of my computer-illiterate friends out, as well as aunts uncles and mom all the time. Although usually a thanks and a pat on the back is about all I get - congratulations on the nice little gift. GO karma!

I hear ya on the karma thing, man. For example, if I'm in a situation where I don't feel comfortable driving somewhere, being it from the bar or a friend's place, I'll get a lift from a friend and will generally throw a $5 bill and a nugget their way for the lift. I don't horde my smoke, as I seem to enjoy it just a bit more if I have a friend or two to sit around and BS with, or play a video game over the network, so I guess I hit a good day karma wise! Maybe I'll even give a couple bucks to someone on the street later to smooth it all out.

That's pretty cool man. My supplier's car wouldn't start so I drove about half an hour (1 way, not too bad) to go jump start his car. Got it running and he sent me off with 2 ozzy's

(of course he wanted $100 for one of them though >_>)

Edit: I is a geek, too. Me and my cousins used to get so many computers from our cyberschool years ago, it was a tinkerer's wet dream. Never really got that sort of reward though haha

You Lucky, BigAzz...I've only got 'paid' Like that 3 times in the last 10 years...

Installed a guy's home network (wired and wireless) running through a 3 story house...took me 3 days to finish, including installing a firewall, cyberguard on the kiddies systems, and to hook up the Media Center system to the flat screen so we can both play HALO while working....

That was my best one...got paid $450 AND got 2 O's of the greenest shrubs from the Jolly Green Giants backyard....Oh Blessed Capitalism...

Then I did a Hard Drive rescue for a female friend of mine, she got her wireless system attacked because Comcast tech forgot to secure the portal. I made an 1/8 for just 3 hours worth of work.

Finaly I had a doctor from Vermont that lives on Long Island ask me if i could save his laptop HD and sync with his home / office system. DId it showed him how to keep doing it and a few other tips and don't you know, he pulls out a bag, smokes us both up AND gives me $200 and a 1/8?

Yes, Nerds Rule... Especially us with a green thumb. LOL - Thats why i keep my computer skills sharp as I do...not only is it a great 2nd job, but the perks, ah the perks are worth it...even if it's boring debugging Microsoft sometimes....
