| Well, let me say, I had a BLAST! Went on a 2 week trip to USVI/St Thomas, and enjoyed EVERY minute of it! The only downside was the damn flight...and I once again, thank God that airlines hire a good portion of their pilots from the services, especially the Navy. Landing at the airport was exactly like landing on a aircraft carrier...except we were in a fat-assed 757... Once at the hotel, there are SO many duty free stores for booze and what not, it was amazing...plenty of drinking material, and maybe 1/3 of the price of the states. ![]() Now, as for the MJ situation...it is as easy as hell to make a connection, but be forewarned: There is a serious ...shall we say...undercurrent of not so hospitable areas that going into you may end up getting ripped. Don't go into these areas unless you happen to be exceptionally brave, and NEVER wear jewlery Green - Quality was good to KB with an average price of $30 for an 1/8 and $75 for a O...you can find 1/4 and dimes, but overall you do better buying a little or a party size. LOL. The freshness of the green was always decent, and while I'm sure i was smoking the offspring of the 2006 Cannibus Cup, who cared? It was great stuff, and the price was right. Paraphernalia - Pretty much available everywhere. Average prices, with spoons going for $20 or more, water pipes around $50 to $300 for ROOR style pieces. They also had wood & bamboo, but almost no acrylic pieces. You can find stuff in the main part of town, near the airport, and in the open air market close by. The market might have better prices, but some of the guys hat work the stores will be a lot more pleasant to work with...Don't ask the newbie questions, act like a grown up and you'll get a lot better help than you think. Police - The cops do patrol a lot, especially the not so friendly parts of towns, and you can expect that to double during the peak season ( late nov to may). They are pretty much like any other Caribbeans PD, efficient and they DO know what they're doing. They keep an eye out for the obvious tourists, and you may welcome their intervention if you get jammed up. But be warned, you are still in US territory, and as such, are subject to US law just as if you were still on the continental United States. Don't walk down the street with a lighted J in hand and NOT expect to get picked up... ![]() Otherwise, go and ENJOY! There is plenty to see and do, especially if you go to the beaches at St John (Those are run by the National Parks Service, so if you get picked up there smoking, its could be a straight Federal issue, so be aware) But the beaches at St Thomas are almost as nice, and a lot more low key, since they tend to be the majority to the hotels. The nightlife is so so, since I went during the off season, but may go back during Carnival, which is in April...so I'll get to see it when ts packed full of tourists and drunk college seniors...lol |
