| recently got caught, idk if u read my last thread i posted. but ever since i got caught my parents have been tearing me a new asshole. i have been grounded for 2 weeks so far which sucks because i hate sitting at home while i know everyone else is out having fun. but thats not even whats driving me crazy. its the fact that everyday they tell me how marijuana makes you stupid, lazy, takes away all your ambition, slows your reactions, causes you to get lung cancer and more b.s. my mom even swore on a article stating that marijuana causes the same withdrawal as nicotine and is just as addicting. they even have my 12 yr old sister preaching to me at dinner about how she learned how bad it is from the videos shown to her in her health class. apparently smoking the occasional joint or two on the weekend will prevent me from continuing to play sports and do well in school. |

| It'll pass. They'll get bored harassing you, especially if you don't give them the satisfaction of arguing or looking upset.

| And let them think that marijuana is bad? Fight your parents (not physically) but show them how it isnt a big deal, and say as long as you do all your other responsibilities that it isnt a problem. And i really doubt that parents get satisfaction out of having their kids disagree with them, if they do then i dont reccomend them being parents.

| wow, i got caught a while ago (2 weeks) and I've been grounded since. my parents were cool about it, just told me when I'm living with them im not to do it because of potential legal issues and school, even though my grades haven't dropped at all. They haven't really lectured me about it since which i'm thankful for. They also didnt tell my sibs (that blows that they told your sister, totally uncool in my book). Ive stopped and i plan on not smoking for a while, probably until I get to college (I'm a sophomore in high school). Told them that i would respect their rules and once i'm detoxed completely i'm gonna tell them I'd like them to piss test me if they feel like they need to to get some solid proof that im not smoking. Getting ungrounded tomorrow, hopefully they won't be on my ass about everything but if they are oh well. Live and learn dude. Respect your parents and they will learn to respect you. Be honest with them and you'll gain their trust back. Hope things look up for you ![]()

| I'm going to agree with hdshff. Try not to be so rebellious with your parents. What you believe may be true, but in all respect they are the ones providing for you. They also pay all the bills, that may seem like a cop out, but give some credit where credit is due. There is nothing wrong with trying to educate someone, parents or otherwise. But looking at it as a fight for who is right and who is wrong won't get anything done. Ask your mom to show you the article that says quiting cannabis causes withdrawals, there is more than one way to prove this is wrong (personally I've smoked for several years on a regular basis and quit "cold turkey" for over 6 months, never had a single withdrawal symptom). One, and the main reason, being that cannabis doesn't stimulate dopamine production which is the main cause of physical addiction. The argument can be made that cannabis is mentally addictive, but it's a weak one and really just shows that some people don't possess the maturity to use any mind altering substance. All I'm saying here is there is a right way and a wrong way to go about dealing with your situation. If you give it some serious though, you'll see what will work best for your situation. |

| I honestly don't know what I would do if I had to hide smoking from my parents. One of the few advantages I have right now, I suppose. I do agree with the advice on educating your parents, if you can figure out how to do it in a non-confrontational way. There are far too many people who are ignorant to what marijuana is and does. |

| that sucks bro, when they tell you about some article, tell them about one too. and then see whos is dated most recently. my mom knows a i smoke, and knows she cant do anything about it. i pay for everything for myself, even clothes man. she sent me an email awhile ago of an article that says 'smoking a little can help smoking a lot may harm'.... ok.... its really funny to me that people are so against pot. having done many other and harder drugs you see how miniscule pot is in its effects. it barely does anything! |

ANYWAYS TO THE OP: Alright...since they seem to think they've got the facts you should search around online and gather a bunch of info on the specific problems they have with pot and RESPECTFULLY show it to them the next time they start getting on your case. Now having your sister give you little lectures is just not right in my opinion, and of course the movies they show in school's health class are going to be filled with inaccuracies and bias interviews. Whatever happens remember: you have to keep your cool and remain respectful. Otherwise you're just giving them more reason to hate pot and never trust you. And the last thing I will mention is the sad fact that even after you have presented them with all the info out there there's a good chance they will still be completely against it. Why? Some people can accept that pot isnt very dangerous but still don't like it just because they see no need to take mind-altering substances...its the whole idea that "Well it may not hurt him, but it certainly won't help him."

| i have printed out a huge packet worth of legit information from various websites that prove my parent's claims wrong. Most of them are studies that were conducted recently that i found on some science websites. I plan on showing it to them sometime soon. I think they are just going to have to accept the fact that i am going to continue to smoke and drink occasionally throughout my high school career as i have been for a long time. I will explain to them that it is very unrealistic of you to ask me to never drink or smoke again but i can promise them that i will do it responsibly and in moderation. I'm in 11th grade and i plan on going to parties and having fun while i am young and have the chance. I love marijuana and i plan on never stopping. Hopefully they will understand and things will go well. If anything they have been so pissed off about the fact that i act like not getting my license and being grounded doesn't bother me at all. | Yea that thing in the restaurant is way over the line.(not to mention way wrong...THC is not neurotoxic meaning it doesn't kill brain cells.) And of course the videos are going to show stuff like that. That's the whole plan. Think about it...once somebody actually tries smoking pot they realize how little harm it can cause and that it is a damn good time, so the government has to try and stop people from ever trying it. What better way to do that than completely flood the public, especially the kids, with stories of terrible things happening to everyone who smokes it even just once. |
