Red face San Diego Crackdown!

Recently, extremist Christian Fundamentalists have caused crackdowns on "moral crimes" or "victimless crimes" such as cruising for sex, prostitution, and of course marijuana. (including forcing legal dispensaries to close, driving law abiding citizens to the street [Smart, Huh?]

I'm interested to know if anyone has any information on how this is happening, and if there's any response against it? American laws (US) are generally supposed to be about protecting people, but you know how it REALLY goes.

Traffic is being driven away from the usual area near downtown, and lives are being ruined as a conviction keeps many from being able to go to college. (Let's just KEEP them down!)

Does anyone have any information? I think certain city officials, and DEA workers should be tried for causing public harm, and for endangering lives in spite of the will of California voters. Is this still America?

I would also like to know what people are doing to handle their live in spite of such lunacy, and where traffic is being driven to, but nothing TOO specific, (unless you email me) since our officials can no longer be trusted.

Any organizations, information, or comments?

Marijuana is still illegal under federal law. California may recognize marijuana as medicine, but the feds do not. Therefore, theres no recourse. Until the FEDERAL laws regarding marijuana are changed, any diospensary or similiar business is operating on nothing but a hope and a prayer, as they aren't protected from the DEA in any way, shape, or form.

It's pretty much common knowlege that marijuana is illegal. If anyone looking for State or Federal grants to go to college and they smoke marijuana can get convicted, they ruin their own chances of getting the grants. A decision needs to be made by the individual. Take a chance they won't get caught or don't smoke marijuana until they get their education. It's a matter of individual choice.

With the present drug laws they are keeping themselves down. Nobody to blame but themselves if they get caught.

For example, it amazes me how somebody will say. "I was smoking pot in my car or in the park and some fuckin' cop on a power trip arrested me."
It's against the law and they are "Law Enforcement Officers". That means it is their job to enforce the law.
Do I think marijuana should be legal? Of course I do, but it's not. If I get busted, it's my fault and I can't blame someone else for it.

If elected, maybe Ron Paul can change the law.

Red face

All understandable, and good points. What's concerning to me is that Medical Marijuana patients are the ones who are being most victimized, even though they're doing their best to work within the system. I use marijuana for psychological, and physical symptoms, and am impressed with it's ability to heal.

Individual states were created to allow for different areas to create the laws which suit them. California law should supercede Federal law, unless the Feds are involved in some way (Interstate drug trafficing, etc) For the Feds to come to California and begin arresting people for abiding by state law is absurd, and unconstitutional. City supervisors should not be selling us out that way, and attempting to do away with prop 215. California voters voted on this issue 11 years ago, and our wishes are being ignored, `though there have been very few issues (except DEA raids, and robberies)

I know people are aware they're taking risks, I simply stated that it should not be one. Although marijuana use is popular through different races, and communities, San Diego police seem to focus on poor people, and racial minorities when it comes to arrests. It's in the numbers. When a person is arrested for a crime against nature, like smoking marijuana, and their ability to get an education is affected, it serves to help keep them in the set of circumstances that may have led them to drugs in the first place.

My point isn't that people don't know, or that there's no risk, it's that there shouldn't be, and that we can do something to address that. San Diego police have been going so far out of their way to arrest these people, that they wind up breaking laws in doing so (entrapment, detention without cause, et al) to no real social gain, and to the detriment of individual lives. This is what needs to be addressed. I simply believe we should hold our leaders, and each other to a higher set of standards when it comes to the ethical enforcement of our laws, and our decisions as a people. I'm sorry I lacked clarity in my first post.

`Though marginalized by our habits, and often other factors, we should stay involved in our greater society and challenge incorrect decisions vocally. When San Diego police step out of line, it should be swiftly, and correctly addressed. I've heard of, and seen too much corruption, especially in some of our poorest areas to be willing to ignore it any longer.
