Sorry, I know I'm a newb, but I thought I could possibly add something to this board AND potentially help myself out at the same time. I did a search and did not find any info on this particular topic. Also I read the entire "finding a dealer" sticky thread -- there is some useful stuff in there but there was one point in there that I do not think was properly addressed.

Much of the advise in there was something like "dude, just find a head shop." Okay... and then what?

What not to do:

Do NOT ask the person working the counter for a hook up. This is probably obvious to most people, but some people are simply not that "street smart" and need this spelled out. This person is selling what is essentially drug paraphernalia -- selling drugs or referring you to a dealer is NOT a smart thing for that person to do. Think about this from his/her perspective.

This is what I'm not sure about.

My situation:

I'm a professional guy. I'm married. But I'm not stuck up or conservative in any way. I'm not much of a drinker, or even much of a weed smoker either. But I like to relax, and prefer to relax with the more mellow experience of sweet Mary Jane. I'm not the kind of guy that buys drugs, and have a hard time trying to figure out how to go about it. I have received most of my product from friends out of town (WAY out of town). I would love to find a reliable, stable, and LOCAL source.

I live in St. Louis, MO, in a very trendy area (called the Loop if anyone is familiar with it). You see lots of cool laid back people, all races, punks, hippies, hip hoppers, gay couples -- people of all stripes getting along. I LOVE living here -- it's really pretty cool. I KNOW there has to be weed here!

There are THREE head shops that are literally walking distance from where I live. AND a houka bar! I know, I know, I must be the lamest white boy ever. I'm usually the kind of guy that can strike up conversations with people, but asking for drugs strikes me as a social breech of some sort (so maybe I AM stuck up).
Purpose of the thread (hopefully):

If this helps me, great. But I would love to contribute something to the board too. What do you do when you have found your head shop, you are in an area you know there is some supply... what comes next? Discuss your experience. What has worked to you, and what has not?

You just have to use your instincts and intuition, really. Just about all of my best dealers were cross-referenced with a few friends. I'd go back to the "find a dealer" thread and give it a good reading because if all you saw was "find a headshop" then you couldn't have been looking hard.

In fact, going to a headshop for weed doesn't sound that bright. Key thing: If it sounds like something a cop could hatch up in five minutes in order to make a few quick busts, it's not a good idea.

You and me smoke differently and have a different relationship with the plant which is why I can't do much more than redirect you to that thread. Because if i was in your position...I wouldn't know what to do either.

I did not mean to imply this. I found the "how to find a dealer" thread quite helpful in general. I just wanted to focus on one aspect of that thread.

Well like Jake said, it seems like a place cops would go to in order to find dealers, but they most likely would not pose as a dealer in order to bust a small time smoker such as your self. I would just smoke a cigarette with someone outside and just start to talk. If they seem like a good enough person make some kind of hint about weed. I read something on hear a while ago that said say something like "I dont know why i some these things they dont even make things funny." and see how the person reacts. If he kind of chuckles ask him if he smokes weed and whatnot. I'm sure he would cause its at a headshop.

well i found a reliable headshop, SnG, hell im only 16 but the last 3 owners have sold to me, and the recent owners i like the best, just the other day i through him a ten sack and he gave me a 15 dollar discount, i found out he blazed cause one of my friends smokes with him, but unless you know from a personal source than xlz916 is right dont mention it dont make a refrance to MJ and do not call it a bong, most people dont relize this but if you say the word bong if the owner doesnt like it or doesnt trust you he may kick you out, its called a water pipe, and dont call the stash boxes stash boxes, their just boxes, hookah is an acceptible word, if you do say something stupid like that than you may not be welcomed back, and they will lose all trust in you, and please never steal from your local headshop, thats just not cool

as far as finding a reliable dealer, well that is hard but not to hard, just start talking to people around town, you will find them in places you never thought, i know people that are teachers, shop owners, parents, principals, cops, PO officers, firefighters, you name it and there are bound to be tokers in that proffesion, start asking the laid back guy at work, even if they passed the piss test, just start talking about drinking, than partying, the drugs such as herb
