I didn't really know where to post this but I figured this looked like the most appropriate place for it...

I just got high for the first time (I had smoked a few times before - not recently - and never got high), and I realized that it might impact my final exams that I have tomorrow afternoon and the next morning. I read some stuff about short-term memory loss associated with weed...is it going to last for 24 hours up to exam time? Am I going to be able to do any studying tonight or tomorrow morning? I know it's different for everyone, but generally speaking...

I dont think it will affect your exams, I think that mostly the whole memory loss is if you try to remember things that happened while you were high, smoking the day before a test shouldnt hurt you.

Thats just what I think though, I dont have any science to back it up, just experience

I think you'll be ok. My form of short term memory loss usually manifests itself by getting high, putting something somewhere, then forgetting what I did with it whether I was still high or came back down. I don't have any studies or anything to link but if someone does get short term memory loss it seems like it is more with chronic smoking then your first time. There is a thing called state dependent learning which means if you are high when you learn something recalling it usually occurs best when you recreate that state, ie, when you're high again. It doesn't sound like you plan on doing that. Also, it does seem it sometimes isn't the best idea to study several hours after smoking but for me that was a bad idea because sometimes I would be a little tired and I don't study well tired. Who does though. If you liked getting high just hold off till exams are over then treat yourself when they're over!

By all means study, I don't think you have anything to worry about.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the help. Also, is it true that the THC that remains in your system can cause you to feel high in the days following smoking? It sounds like it could be a psychosomatic type thing, but a couple people have told me that it's happened to them. How likely would a first time smoker be to experience this kind of thing? I would have no problem were it not for the exams but now I'm getting kind of anxious about it. I probably should have waited until I was done with the semester, but maybe I'm just worrying about nothing.

THC metabolizes in your fat and remains in your system this way for awhile. You don't feel the effects of it though.

Half life of THC can be anywhere from 4.3-12.6 days...

No worries Homey........After a lifetime of herb usage, I can say that my memory is just as sharp as it ever was, and maybe even better than before.........

I smoked straight thru college and really only made an effort to not smoke then go take a test. Then was the only time I would have problems.

I think of memory like this....In your head, there's a department that is for memory. Now it works because there's a little guy in there that's sitting there in front of the terminal just waiting for you to ask him something, and in record time he can have that memory for you.

Now, like the rest of me, when I get stoned, he gets stoned, and like most stoners, he likes to kinda take it easy when it comes to getting in a hurry....

Sometimes it takes him a week to get something for me. I will be watching T.V. and here he comes, waving a slip with a piece of memory he just happened to find.......that I needed a week ago........

He's so proud of hisself, standing there grinning like he really accomplished something........too bad that I don't need it now..........

It's all still in there, it just takes stoner boy some time to find it.......
