I swear to God, I'm this close to teaching my 15 year old the consequences of being a jackass in the real world is he gets his ass beat.

Besides being a smart ass (natural for a teenager, I understand), he has been treating his younger brother like shit and bullying him around, deleting memory cards and telling him he can play his video games (that the younger one bought with his own money), acting like he is king shit...I wouldn't even leave a fucking mark, his word against mine.

Ignoring me when I tell him to do things (pick up his clothes, etc)...I've just about fucking had it with his attitude. Tomorrow while they are at school I'm ripping out all the video game systems and televisions, they won't be coming back until a change in attitude is seen by all of them.

I sent them all to bed before I seriously went off on all of them. The problem in this day and age isn't a lack of self esteem...It's an abundance of self esteem. They all need taken down a peg or two. Damn rug rats think they deserve everything handed to them on a silver platter and they can act however and do whatever they want without any regard to other's feelings.

Let's see how they feel after a week or more of no electronics and going to school and back only. Fucking twits.

Well, I will say one thing. It's good to know that Mr. Plains is still human

I would feel the same in your shoes man. Sometimes kids take advantage of an understanding and easygoing parent, which you seem to be in my eyes from what I've read in the past. They all need a little discipline and hard love every now and then to let 'em know who's still boss around the house. Rebellion comes with the teenage years, but sometimes they push it too far.

Hope everything works out well for ya. If they only knew how cool of a guy they have as a dad

I remember being a brat to my parents as a teenager...I grew out it and I am now greatful for them. They support me all the way. It might just take some time Plains, he'll learn...(you can show him the door but he has to walk through it...)

That sucks man. I work with kids in grades 1-5 but honestly I wouldn't expect that from a 15 year old. Usually what I do is use threats of losing items they hold in high regard to get them to do their work, so I think taking away all the systems should work, especially the TV since kids now (including myself) are dependant on the TV, Computer, and games. So take away those 3 things as well as an ipod or stereo and leave a bunch of books on the bed, you should be set.

Fortunately, I already had a decade of dog training under my belt before my children came along. There was never any doubt about who was the alpha dog (and alpha bitch) in our household. It never came to physical confrontation and very rarely a raised voice. Like canines, we are a species hard-wired for hierarchical relationships. You just have to give the right signals at the right times.

I was kind of a dick when I was younger, strike that - I was a major dick when I was younger. I'm still a dick, I'm sure. Arrogant, that's for sure (but now I'm only arrogant in stuff I know I'm right about ), but I've lost my taste for being "disobedient," so to speak. I lost that sometime around the time I turned 15, I think, (I'm currently 17), so fear not, plains, we do grow out of it!

I know where you're coming from. I have a 20 year old still camping in my house. I get nothing but smart ass grief and frequent lies. Her room is a pig sty and thats an insult to real owners of pig stys. She is going to college (I'm picking up the bill) but she keeps changing her major like every other semester. At the rate she is going, it will take her 20 years to get out of school. Her boyfriends are retards (one came to the house dressed in a trenchcoat and wearing black fingernail polish). When we get into an arguement with her, she drops F bombs like they're normal parts of her vocabulary. I don't mind the F bombs but it torques me off when she drops them on her momma.

I didn't get my video games until I was in like 6th grade and could pay for all of it with my own paper route money that I had saved. I kind of went crazy with video games, until 9th grade when I stopped playing. Now it's just Madden and a racing game.....

I don't know Plainsman, you're always so good at this stuff, I'd feel stupid giving you advice or anything.

Maybe make the TV removal a litle bit permanent though. Families who have removed their YVs are usually much better off. All of the time that could be spent watching it could be better spent doing something else. Your kids will hate it at first but soon they'll remember how fun playing with their brother is, and how good it feels to do something helpful around the house and get praised.
