I am going to Ireland as part of an exchange student program next year, and, seeing as how weed is a big part of my life, I was wondering how common it is there, how much it costs and how harshly it's penalized.

Ireland

Cannabis is considered a Schedule I drug in Ireland MISUSE OF DRUGS ACT, 1977. Various movements have been founded to legalize the drug, including an attempt at starting a cannabis legalization political party. Under Irish Law a Schedule 1 drug, such as cannabis, is a drug which is highly abusable with no medicinal value. Unlike British law, Irish law does not organize drugs in Classes A,B,C etc.

Ireland - Five Classes.

* SCHEDULE I - cannabis, LSD, mescaline, opium
* SCHEDULE II - cocaine, heroin, methadone, morphine
* SCHEDULE III & IV - other psychotropic substances
* SCHEDULE V - specific preparations of drugs

That is a good question as I am half Irish, half Dutch, and might need to know the laws if we can ever get over there.

Ok guys here's some info you'll need to know.

The gardai (pigs) used to not give a shit about recreational users until organized crime began to profit greatly off selling hash, specifically soapbar hash. If you're caught with this type of hash on you, you WILL be arrested/fined. The first offense is simply a fine, but the punishment for dealing I've heard is REALLY harsh. Be careful and ask around at the nightclubs (what county are you planning on going to?) and you'll eventually stumble upon some. weed is going to be expensive for good shit btw, especially american-euro.
