I was just there,
in my car coming back from one of my job sites.
As I came within a few hundred feet of the South Tower we were stopped by the CHP right underneath the 3 Pro-Tibet protesters up on the cables.
We were held there for about 5 minutes before they let the traffic move on again.
Pretty awesome timing...

:edit: Two of my friends just called me from down the waterfront asking if they could crew with me if I was planning on sailing out to lend support to the protest.
Unfortunately, I hauled my boat out of the water late last week so I can't.

but I'm trying to reach a friend of mine who has a little schooner down the way.
So far I can't reach him but if I do and we can hustle out there (it's about a ten minute sail from where I am now) I'll take some pictures and post em...


Pro-Tibet protesters climb Golden Gate Bridge tower
(04-07) 11:22 PDT SAN FRANCISCO -- Three demonstrators scaled the south tower of the Golden Gate Bridge this morning in a protest aimed at drawing attention to Chinese human rights violations in Tibet.
The protest comes two days before the Olympic Torch makes its only North American stop in San Francisco before the games this summer in Beijing.
Alma David, a spokeswoman with the Students for a Free Tibet, said three people scaled one of the towers around 10:30 a.m., carrying a banner that reads, "One World, One Dream, Free Tibet 2008."
The protesters unfurled the banner at 11:20 a.m.
David said authorities were climbing the tower in an attempt to force the demonstrators down. The California Highway Patrol said the far-right lane of northbound traffic on the bridge was blocked.

I'm sorry you didn't like what I had to say but do you really think that there aren't going to be some severe beat downs as a result of these demonstrations? You and I can sit back in our comfortable living rooms and cheer them on and root for the good guy but in the end, you and I can't or won't do a thing to stop it from happening.

I've been going to the protests almost every day. Sorry if i offended you, but that post was written from an asshole perspective, whereas I prefer an optimistic one.

Having watched how china deals with internal disputes since the 60's, I wouldn't call it an "asshole perspective" but rather a realistic perspective.
You're just doing some kind of "feel good" demonstrations that will achieve nothing. Hey but thats okay as you're doing all you can with a mocha latte in your left hand and a picket sign in your right hand.

I didn't realize I gave you an in-depth description of what we are doing which completely fits your description.

Your wrong. we are outside the capitol every day, screaming at our senator and congressperson to speak out against whats happening. I am a realistic optimist. hope for the best, prepare for the worst. that doesn't mean that i sit around listening to phish all day yelling to my choir about "the corporations".

Your view on "feel good" demonstrations', seems to me like you don't believe they work. To you, all they do is drink starbucks and play hacky-sack. Your wrong bud. Dead wrong.

Being herd by massive amounts of people in history has proven to work. Who are you to dis the same people today?
