| Last night was horrible! I got a phone call at about 10:00 by a co-worker saying that one of my residents was shot and killed. (I work in the apartment industry). I get there and it wasn't one of my residents but an unauthorized occupant. He wasn't killed but he was shot 4 times. He did make it through. While I was waiting for the police to complete their investigation so we could go inside for the clean-up I got another phone call. It was my assistant telling me that someone kicked in my leasing consultants door. I inform thepolice and about that time I heard it come over the radio. I didn't see any of them cops that were standing around coming so I started running over to her apartment. Two cops came running as well. They yelled at me to stop so I did. I told them where the apartment was and they pulled their guns and went inside her apartment. When the cops didn't find anything there I saw two kids run from behind the bushes and informed the cops where they were. The cops caught one of them and took him to juvenile. It was another one of my residents son (15years old). His little brother was with him but the cops didn't catch him. Needless to say I have to give them notice to move out. Then I go back to where the shooting investigation was. The police think it was gang related. They didn't complete their investigation till about 2:30am. We go inside and their was blood all over the carpet and entry. My maintenence had to pull the carpet, pad and the entry way tile. I finally was able to get back home at about 4am. I go to sleep and wake up this morning to get ready to back to work when I get another phone call that one of my elder residents passed away of a heart attack. This is just too much in a 24 hour time span. We have not had so much action in one day in a long time. People always say my property is quiet. I sure wish it had remained that way.

| Damn, I'm sorry 29... Well, let's hope the old saying stays true, and bad things only happen in 3's. You're streak should be over now, heh. And hell, catching that 15 year old would make me feel pretty good actually, knowing who did it and getting them out before they do even more damage. It is all very unfortunate though. You actually made off pretty well for yourself if you ask me, given the circumstance. You have someone shot in your apartment, but he didn't live there. You had someone break in, but you caught him You had someone die, but it was because of age/health. Sure would've been better if things stayed quiet, but look at the brightside, it could've been a million times worse!

| I had given out two notice to vacate's for breach of lease today. One to the apartment where the shooting occured since the police think it's gang related and he received it for disrupting the safety and comfort of others. One to the apartment with the kid that kicked in the door for criminal activity. Well, I may have no choice but to re-tract the one with the kid because the occupant in the apartment couldn't positively identify the kid as the one that kicked in the door. The only thing they were able to charge him with is breaking curfew. Once I get proof that that's all he was charged with then I will have no choice but to re-tract the notice to vacate. Your right Dark it could have been worse. I'm glad it wasn't any worse. It was a rough day though. I don't want to see anything else like this for a long while and preferrably never again. It's funny that you say that about things happening in 3's because I thought of the same thing when I was on my way home from work today. I hope it does end right there. Just to let you know though...this past Friday a sister property of mine had a building burn down and the city leveled the building and 8 families were out of a home and lost a lot of their personal belongings including a residents immigration papers and those are hard to replace. They are going to have hell to get those again. I feel so bad for those families. On the bright side as you say...no one was hurt in that either. |
