why the groan, tenderlungs? it's their own fault for selling drugs, this isn't some kid selling small amounts of weed from his dorm room for a little extra cash, they were selling ecstacy, cocaine, mushrooms, marijuana, and meth out of a campus fraternity house. there were also guns and about $60,000 confiscated plus, some kid sent a mass text advertising a 'sale' on cocaine. it's not like they didn't know the risks, they had a lot to lose and it's their fault.

Yeah, I heard that. That is the biggest dumbass move if you're a drug dealer. Why would you send out a text message like that. You deserve to get caught if you're that stupid.

There was a lot of people that got arrested though and I'm sure not all of them were that stupid. It does sucks that some of their lives will be ruined. But when you deal hardcore drugs and have weapons on you, you have to know what you're doing is extremely risky. So in that sense it is hard to feel bad for them.

At the end of the day a girl died from a drug OD at college. This would be handled the same way almost everywhere probably.

I don't get the groan either tenderlungs...

I can't believe how naive some of you are being about this. You speak as if these kids were selling grams of weed for a bit of extra spending money. This was a HUGE operation that involved large amounts of several different types of class A drugs (as well as firearms), and is suspected to be tied to the Mexican Mafia.

96 arrested in San Diego State drug bust - Los Angeles Times
Quote:
According to the DEA, the seized evidence included 4 pounds of cocaine, 50 pounds of marijuana, 48 hydroponic marijuana plants, 350 Ecstasy pills, 30 vials of hash oil, methamphetamine, psilocybin (mushrooms), various illicit prescription drugs, a shotgun, three semiautomatic pistols, three brass knuckles and $60,000 in cash.

And did anyone catch the bit about the kid who was majoring in criminal justice asking the SAC if the arrest (for possession of 500 grams of coke and two guns) would affect him getting into federal law enforcement?? ahahaha
SignOnSanDiego.com > News > Education -- Yearlong probe results in 96 arrests on SDSU campus

I'll bet a good percentage of these kids roll on their suppliers and we'll see an even bigger bust 6 months-a year from now.

Wow i didn't realize how big the operation was. Is that how they caught them though, through texts? I hear about people getting busted like that a lot. I know this will sound stupid but, can't you just delete texts containing illegal stuff? yeah probably not just wondering

this investigation has been a long time in the making -- the officers had been attending frat parties for 6 months according to the article andrew posted, swapped phone numbers and drug info with the brothers for that period of time. the investigation apparently began when a young girl was found dead of a cocaine overdose last year.

Shame? You act as if they were somehow innocent victims who didn't do anyuthing wrong. While the moral implications of dealing drugs is certainly debatable, the LEGAL implications are pretty black and white. Along with everyone I know, I realize getting aught selling drugs leads to serious shit. I'm also intelligent enough to know that selling drugs to strnagers, advertising drug deals on mass text messsages, etc is pretty damn stupid. These guys did everything aside from showing up on the police dept dorrstep asking to be arrested. Drugs didn't ruin their lives, nor did the people arresting them. They were extremel;y stupid, careless, and given the circumstances, I don't see how it could have turned out any other way These guys were basically walking around with a big sign on their back saying "ARREST ME PLEASE, I SELL DRUGS"

I just don't think anyone should be arrested for drugs. I know it's illegal, but that doesn't mean I agree with it. It's a human rights issue that really needs to be looked at again.

we have the right to attend school and not worry about possibly being with kids who are actively dealing dangerous drugs and are heavily arming themselves (which would probably have something to do with with their possible connections to the mexican mafia...) but who cares about all that as long as they can still do what they want...

From a purely theoretically standpoint - I too, don't believe anyone should be arrested for using drugs responsibly. Dealing in amounts this large (while armed, no less), and being associated with a powerful criminal organization like the MM, however, is something else entirely. I'd say this escalates it beyond a human rights issue and into a "this is an accident waiting to happen" issue. As I said in my first post, it isn't like this group was made up of small-time pot dealers. There's a reason why they say "Marijuana transactions are done with a handshake, and cocaine transactions are done with a gun."
