The US is set to offer more than $900m to help rebuild Gaza following Israel's military assault on the Palestinian territory, officials say.
Hillary Clinton, the US secretary of state, is to formally announce the funding at a donor conference in Egypt next week, one US official said on Monday.
The money, which would need to be approved by the US congress, is to be distributed through the UN and other bodies and not via Hamas, the Palestinian group which governs Gaza, said one of the officials, who asked to remain anonymous.


Okay, why the hell is the US giving money away. Israel made the mess, they need to clean it up.


The United States has the worst economy that we have seen since the 20's. Why does this country feel the need to give away money it doesn't have?


This shit really pisses me off considering all the people who are and have lost their homes due to the economy, myself included.

While I am very Pro-Israel, this is quite ridiculous.

I believe Israel claimed that they would rebuild Gaza after the fighting finally ceased (temporarily, at the most). America shouldn't be shelling out money to them for that when it was them who made the promise in the first place, especially in our current recession.

fyi all countries are constantly giving away money to various other nations. Not that I agree, but most people don't realize that this country spends billions each year on other countries. We even pay rent for Gitmo... $3,000 a year or a little more, but Cuba doesn't cash the checks out of protest...

Most of us who follow politics regularly are aware of how much the US gives away for various interests.

Whether you agree with the politics of the middle east and Israel makes little difference when you consider that the US is bankrupt and the is no light at the end of the tunnel for our country.

We have people HERE are suffering terrible things that need help. I'm not about socialism and money distribution. I am about helping the people who pay for the government in taxes. Did gaza pay taxed to the US at anytime?

What about those poor bastards in New Orleans who lost everything and had their whole lives forever changed because the government didn't, and still hasn't, rebuilt and made the city liveable? Why Gaza and not them?

Like all that money they gave to the automakers. I was very in favor of giving the people the money in a voucher system to buy cars from the companies.

The fucking government just likes to give money away.

For a lot of years I wanted to be an illegal immigrant in Canada. I lived there for 2 months (Thunder Bay). I loved it. But realistically, you have to work to live. Being a pot grower in Canada is a huge investment and like trying to be a dealer in California. It's so saturated of a market it's hard to be the new kid on the block.

I just chug along in the old US of A proud to be an American since Bush left office.

I don't think its going to the dogs, i just think there are issues that need to be worked through. And yes, new Orleans should have gotten much more work done but regardless, Israel needs this too. It isn't as if they did this to themselves, they were provoked for many years.

Good point. The media likes to make Israel out to be this warmonger who committed inhumane crimes against Gaza by retaliating against Hamas...yet they love to overlook the fact that Gaza provoked this for years with missiles that launched into Israel.

Oh and they never showed that the Hamas used civilians as shields when Israel invaded. I wonder why? Hmmm.

It isn't about how provoked Israel was or even what reasons they had to attack.

It's about the US giving money to a matter that doesn't concern them. Not our business, terrible event, not our problem. Fuck 'em, move on, next tragedy. Why does the US always have to be the glorious Knight in Shinning Armor who hands money out... to foreign countries that is.

Wrong, it does concern them, Israel is allies with the USA, and Israels army is the second strongest army in the world currently, only surpassed by the USA. Currently, all this shit is goin down in Israel, but maybe one day all this shit will be going down in the USA, and we might need Israels help. Life is all about building relationships. Van Wilder.
