Yasser Arafat may soon die. It is being reported that he is in a Comma and in very bad health. It may be important to monitor this one.

Considering that he has been more of a presence than a power player in Israel/Palestine for quite a while now, I'm not sure how his absence will have mumch effect on the political climate in the area.

People within Arafats own party have kidnapped, etc. to make Arafat meet their demands. Prime Minister Ahmed Qureia has control over the police and internal security. When Arafat "calls for an end to the violence" nobody listens to him.

I think that as he and Arie Sharon have aged, they've both begun to see the errors in their ways. Sharon's pull out from Gaza was a huge surprise to me, given his lifetime support of that occupation.

Arafat is doing his best Franco impression... I still feel a bit odd any time I hear "Nobel Peace Prize winner Yassar Arafat," though.
