Now, I know the world is not fair...but if it were and if this happened in the U.S. the 'international' community would riot. Where is the blanket condemnation of all things Dutch?

EU told to act fast to integrate immigrants

AMSTERDAM (Reuters) - Many European Union states are at risk from increasing radicalism among young Muslims and must act urgently to improve integration of foreigners, Dutch Immigration Minister Rita Verdonk says.

Verdonk called on a conference of EU officials in the northern Dutch town of Groningen on Wednesday to discuss concrete measures to improve integration of Europe's growing immigrant communities.

She was speaking as Dutch police were engaged in a standoff with suspects sought in an anti-terrorism investigation and just over a week after police arrested a 26-year-old Dutch-Moroccan on suspicion of killing outspoken filmmaker Theo van Gogh.

"I am speaking to you with an urgent tone. There are problems that we must keep our eye on. If we don't do anything, these problems will only get worse in the long term," she said.

Verdonk said the two-day conference should discuss ways to prevent young Muslims being drawn towards Islamic extremism. About 18 percent of the Dutch population of 16 million is of recent foreign descent and almost one-third of them are Muslims.

The Dutch minister said tougher national integration policies were needed to ensure immigrants learned the local language and accepted Western values, but EU states should also develop a common vision of integration.

EU leaders agreed last week to seal a common asylum policy by 2010 to fight illegal immigration to the wealthy region.

Terrorism and immigration have risen to the top of the EU's agenda following the September 11, 2001, attacks on U.S. cities, growing anti-immigration sentiment in Europe and higher numbers of illegal migrants dying while trying to enter the bloc.

Verdonk has drawn criticism from human rights groups for her plans to deport up to 26,000 failed asylum seekers and force immigrants to attend compulsory Dutch and integration courses.

Yep, several Dutch Islamic schools were set ablaze, christian churches, mosques - (all Dutchies going crazy). There are some terror sheiks sought now. Last night an arrest in the Hague led to grenades wounding 3 officers. These guys came in to end a 14 hour standoff.

Are there any statistics on Americans knowing where the Netherlands lie? I wouldn't be surprised if approximate the size of the Bush electorate doesn't know.

Not that has any correlation, Michael Moore for instance, doesn't know the difference between Holland and the Netherlands but still had to comment "shame on you Netherlands, we used to think so highly of you" for supporting the Iraq invasion. Haven't heard him condemming the brutal murder of a fellow filmmaker yet, anyone?

Still, it seemed inevitable to have Jihad come to the Heartland of religious tolerance. Always seemed a probable target in an idealogical war coming from religious fascists. I hope the basttards underestimate the wrath of reformation they unleashed upon themselves. We now have a cleric explaining the teachings of Islam on man-woman relations, sex, interpretation, morality and context of "Holy scripture" on PBS wearing a red ribbon. It is almost a curse to have so much talk of religion in the land of blasphemy.
