Don't mention it.

Not everyone is interested in whats best for the Iraqi people, especially when whats best for them means sacrificing whats best for us. And of course the war isn't simply defeating an "anti-democratic insurgency," it includes killing thousands of innocent Iraqis, intentional or not. I have to ask, Mr. Mike, at what point is the price of defeating an "anti-democratic insurgency" too high, or do you even think there is a point? Peace, HN-

Of course others than the "insurgents" will be killed. I'm not trying to imply that that's not the case. However, if those who'd like to see a return of oppressive rule in Iraq would give up their goal... Why do we not place more blame on those who use terrorist tactics in forwarding their goal of violently impeding the democratic process?

It's difficult to pinpoint a specific qualitative breaking point. It's more a matter of progress. The al-Sadr-led rebellion in the south has largely been defeated or politically assuaged recently - for the time being. This is obviously good, and it's real progress. The jury, however, is still out on whether the US-led Coalition will be similarily successful against the Sunnis and Ba'athists in the Sunni Triangle.

If we're not at least mildly successful in this apparent campaign to stamp out the "insurgency" in the Sunni Triangle, then I think the Coalition will be in real trouble. If this offensive fails I'll be extremely concerned about the continued chances for victory in Iraq.

I guess my breaking point is when any hope of defeating the "insurgency" is nil. I'm just not entirely sure how yet to define the arrival of that point...
