Logic and facts is one way to argue a point. Satire is another. I think that the author knows that right-wing America will never wake up until half the planet is ridiculing them -- so he's just trying to start the avalanche by throwing the first snowball.

I say more power to him. He's got a lot of good points. WE'RE supposed to be the land of the free, aren't we? Canada DOES seem to be kicking our ass in that regard. It's about time someone pointed it out in such a way that it garners a little attention.

Thanks for summing up what I couldn't put into words. An argument doesn't have to be cut-and-dry and full of facts and logic. Satire and humor work just fine in showing how foolish some of the decisions and policies this country has gone through with, gay marriage and marijuana being the tip of the iceberg.

I'm sure that Canadians get pretty tired of being written off by US citizens as members of a second-class democracy. I know I would be! The Canadian who wrote this article has obviously acquired the wisdom to laugh at it and the wit to throw it back at us. Bravo!

When the actions of the United States become ridiculous they deserve ridicule. The reason this article irritates so many people is because it's right on target.

Actually Mark Morford writes for the SF Gate (he's American). Check out his other articles if you liked this piece (http://www.sfgate.com/columnists/morford/archive/). He has a lot of good pieces I think which are in the same style as this one.
