| Governments are idiotic. They hardly make good choices, are easily corruptable, and unfortunatly are completly neccessary. My question is, how long? Our technology, and more precisely, our communication skills are advancing more and more, and faster and faster. The internet is a prime example of the success of our civilization. If people are easily able to call for help, or aid, what purpose does the government then have? If people have the tools to educate themselves better than the government can, why even participate in a shoddy, inefficient, system that seems to waste lots and lots of money(social energy). This is a weak attempt at explaining my reasoning, but the general idea is that hopefully our technology will one day take us to the point where government is uneccessary to the point where it almost does not exist.

| i find the idea of using technology to return to real democracy very interesting. if you remember, the greeks who first had democracy, everyone (everyone being white males, this would be changed in teh new system) could go vote. the problem with that is that 250 million people voting on everything is very ridiculous and ineffecient. but with the new technologies coming about, i say that in two to three decades it should be possible that everyone can vote on the issues electronically and therefore reduce the amount of government (as we know it today) needed drastically. |

I do not think it will take a few decades to bring about "true" democracy. Well it might take decades(or longer), since we have a formidable opponent in our current government. After all, nobody wants to lose a job. | |

| I think that the government might have better technology than we have. If it is invented they will know first and regulate. Look at NASA. Look at the things they have developed. They are the smartest scientists around. My friend's dad is in the top 1% of scientists in his field and has worked with NASA many times. They obviously have the smart people. If we had no government how would we defend ourselves. If we had no army, why wouldn't we get invaded, look at september 11th. Somebody doesn't like us. I don't think it could happen in the near future.
