Default Bush tried MJ!

Quote:
A published report says President Bush apparently acknowledged trying marijuana in his younger days during a conversation with a friend. Doug Wead secretly recorded at least a dozen talks with Bush between 1998 and the summer of 2000, when Bush was governor of Texas.

The New York Times says in one of those talks, Bush criticized then-Vice President Al Gore for admitting past marijuana use and explained why he would not answer questions about marijuana. In Bush's words: "I don't want some little kid doing what I tried."

Hmm I wonder how he gets when he's high

I wonder if this is true? Anyhoo, it really wouldn't surprise me if it were...

Regardless, I found this alleged statement telling of the atmosphere surrounding pot and other drugs: "I don't want some little kid doing what I tried."

It's a noble sentiment, I guess, but incredibly do-gooder'ish in substance. Earth to George and all else who would protect us from ourselves: we're all capable of thinking for ourselves, and we really don't need you guys looking out for us with every little thing. Thanks.

So Bush is an admitted alcoholic, and has tried Marijuana (yet allows for others who use it to be imprisoned)? Lovely president you folks have down there!

I'm not sure what the "admitted alcoholic" comment contributes to your point...? And you do understand that the Executive Branch is charged with enforcing the laws that the Legislative Branch passes, right?

Lovely understanding you have of our political system up there!

I can see the logic behind re: his alcoholic background-- if MJ should be outlawed for everyone to prevent a little kiddie from the MJ experience, by his logic shouldnt alcohol also be illegal for everyone and not just kids? In fact, it would appear that alcohol had a more destructive effect on him than pot did. (maybe alcohol is good because it motivated him to become born again )

Lets face it, Pot Prohibition can't be supported with logic

Ah, ok. If that was the point, then schnoogens: I agree.

Well no, of course it can't. Hence the emotional reasoning behind "I don't want some little kid doing what I tried." This seems to be the reasoning many share for mj prohibition.

Amazing that during the 1996 and 2000 campaigns, when I brought up things the Democratic candidates did in their youth, the Left shouted loudly about "ancient history" and "youthful indescretions"..........but it's ok to care about whether or not Bush smoked some pot 40 years ago.

And please don't tell me the difference is about enforcement, since the number of pot arrests was HIGHER under the winner of the 1996 race.

Are you just trying to make some sort of non-existant issue?

Clinton was the last democratic administration. Why the F wouldn't he be the most logical one to compare to? I even threw in the loser in 2000 for good measure.

But no, you guys try this "Clinton again" routine.

It really comes down to the fact that the Left hates it when people point out that they don't apply the same standards to themselves as they apply to others. And the only response is something lame like "Clinton again".
