How COULD I have missed this thread ---

And yeah -- they are targeting the home-sale Tupper Ware type parties that sprang up in Texas and Alabama. Basically Lingerie parties are okay but you cannot replace (or compare) your husband's dick.

The counter to that was --- what about every drug store that sells condoms with Ribs (for extra pleasure). See, sex is okay, as long as the woman doesn't appear to be getting pleasure from it cause then she's just a slut

It is incredibly provincial -- not to mention self destructive to a woman's sexual ego as many women cannot orgasm without extended vaginal and/or clitoral stimulation... whether alone or with a partner...

Of course I'm a kinky old stoner lady with friends in the porn business so your thoughts might differ from mine.

Should be interesting when this hits the Supremes!

...stay tuned...

...and have a cookie

Good to see the government of Alabama protecting it's people from themselves. Nothing like a heaping pile of government interference in the lives of people to make for a well adjusted society.

what a total load of crap. Right now about 50 people I know including my husband are the victims of a very serious fraud. Some of their lives are ruined. Law enforcement can't do **** about it, the cost of a civil suit is prohibitive and the people who perpetuated the fraud have no assets to attach anyway. Meanwhile the government is worried about how I find a way to have 5 ****ing minutes of pleasure. Sorry, I'm just really bitter about governmental priorities at the moment.

Default I Feel Sorry For Some Of These Officers

I tell you, I feel sorry for the officer's that have to uphold these stupid laws. Imagine having to do a 'dildo bust' at a sex toy party filled with a bunch of women simply wanting a little kick in their sex life.

Ribbed condoms are not similarly prohibited, because sexual stimulation is not their primary purpose; the prevention of STDs/unwanted pregnancy is.

However, I don't see the difference between a sex toy and Viagra, except that one is mechanical/electrical and the other is chemical. But the law does say, "any device".

Can you challenge a law's constitutionality on the basis that it discriminates against devices while ignoring chemical agents that perform the same "primary purpose"?

I suppose a larger distinction is that drugs like Viagra have to be obtained through medical channels, via a doctor's prescription (not counting some international sales =p), whereas these devices, presumably, were being sold "in plain view".

I can see where that would offend some people's sensibilities, and although I personally happen to think that sex is nothing to be ashamed of, even if you have to explain something slightly awkward now and then to your children, I would still defend Alabama's right to define its own public sensibilities.

No, wait. Sensibilities are... "a matter of taste, not law" (People Vs. Larry Flynt). Taboos should not be legislated, in fact are protected under the First Amendment, and that's exactly what this is all about -- a taboo. The oldest one. Sex.

This law should have been overturned.
