Let me start this one off by saying I lived in Wichita Kansas when the serial killer known as BTK murdered his last victim (that we know of). BTK is a ruthless, disgusting murderer, and it would be impossible to fully punish them for their crimes. However, having said that I'm a little concerned over the reports coming out about the recent capture of BTK.

There is quite a bit more to the article, but the last sentence I quoted is the one that disturbs me.

I truly hope they have the right guy, and I believe the chances are good that they do. I'm just wondering if it strikes anyone else as inappropriate for Police Chief Norman Williams to be declaring "The bottom line: BTK is arrested" prior to any sort of trial.?

Is that how the system works these days? The cops make an arrest and then declare to the media "We've got him, it's this guy" before any sort of due process takes place?
