A lot of crappy reporting on the Netherlands in regard to this story. First this chick makes a dumb video where she claims a muslim killed Pim Fortuyn (ehhh, not).... then this guy claims 'small countries' like Denmark and the Netherlands want a holocaust on muslims and mentions that van Gogh was killed 'allegedly by a Dutch Muslim of African origin' ... I guess stupidity comes in pairs

And just for some contrast, here's some anti-American cartoons that THEY have published about US!

http://www.aljazeerah.info/Cartoons/...20cartoons.htm

Anybody see a double standard here?

But I guess, there's nothing wrong with what THEY'RE doing, because OUR religion(s) doesn't say anything about not making disparaging cartoons about us.

We need to call the pope, etc, and get them to write some church doctrine about that! "According to the Vatican, it is now a sin to make fun of the Prophet Bush."

Haha, the one with George Bush is funny, he looks like a little monkey. An Arabic monkey mind you, they do know he's white right? I like the one that says "This is America. Previously known as Kuwait" too Oh! And this one too:

See, what they don't realize is that we find these funny!

Somehow I doubt Sun Tzu would have favored going to war with cartoonists...

Saudi Cleric Demands Trial Over Drawings
Abdullah Shiri | Forbes | 02/11/2006

Saudi Arabia's top cleric called on the world's Muslims to reject apologies for the "slanderous" caricatures of Islam's Prophet Mohammed and demanded the authors and publishers of the cartoons be tried and punished, Saudi newspapers reported Saturday.

Speaking to hundreds of faithful at his Friday sermon, Sheik Abdul Rahman al-Seedes, the imam of the Grand Mosque in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, called on the international community to enact laws that condemn insults against the prophet and holy sites.

(BuzzNote: How do you say "Fat chance!" in Arabic?)

"Where is the world with all its agencies and organizations? Is there only freedom of expression when it involves insults to Muslims? With one voice...we will reject the apology and demand a trial," Al Riyad, a Saudi daily newspaper, quoted al-Seedes as saying.

(BuzzNote: He doesn't seem to understand that in a nation of laws you can't try a person for a "crime" committed before the law was on the books. Freedom of expression confers the right to insult anyone or anything.)

Islam is interpreted to forbid any illustrations of Muhammad for fear they could lead to idolatry. No major British newspaper has reproduced the caricatures, and the country had seen only small demonstrations before Saturday.

(BuzzNote: If certain countries want to pass laws making it illegal to publish images of Mohammed that's their business. To expect their laws to be enforced on the populations of other countries is ludicrous! Also, how could these cartoons inspire idolatry?)

So far, eleven people have been killed in the protests - all during three days of riots this week in Afghanistan. A 12th person died in Nairobi Friday when he was hit by an ambulance rushing away a wounded person.

(BuzzNote: Twelve people dead; dead because of some cartoons. This is what comes of not recognizing the difference between symbols and reality.)

"Reprinting the cartoons in order to make a point about free speech is an act of senseless brinkmanship," he said in a commentary in the International Herald Tribune.

(BuzzNote: Reprinting the cartoons is a demonstration that free people won't knuckle under to religious fanaticism and threats of violence. I'm very disappointed that the American press, print, broadcast, and internet, has wimped out and said it was wrong to print them in the first place and refused to let the American people see what all the fuss is about.)

"It is also a disservice to democracy. It sends a conflicting message to the Muslim community: that in a democracy it is permissible to offend Islam. This message damages efforts to prove that democracy and Islam go together."

(BuzzNote: In a democracy it is permissible to offend anyone or anything. Maybe democracy and Islam don't go together if Islam denies freedom of expression.)

Associated Press writers Benjamin Harvey in Istanbul, Turkey; Robin McDowell in Jakarta, Indonesia; and Karl Ritter in Copenhagen, Denmark; and Rashi Khilnani in London contributed to this report.
