[title]Britain And US Defy Demand For Immediate Ceasefire[/title]

Israeli warplanes continued their bombardment of Lebanon yesterday, defying a demand by Kofi Annan for an immediate end to fighting on the ninth day of a war that has led to the "collective punishment of the Lebanese people" .

Two countries, the US and Britain, defiantly refused to back the international clamour for an immediate ceasfire between Israel and Hizbollah guerrillas. Their ambivalence about civilian deaths in Lebanon has given Israel a powerful signal that it can continue its attacks with impunity.

I really don't think cease-fire is plausible... Just like US troops practically have to wait until they have bullets stuck in their kevlar before they can legally fire back, Israelis would just be putting their soldiers back on the defensive, taking attacks repeatedly, if they accepted a "cease-fire."

If you look closely at the "No" column, it says "Margaret Beckett, Foreign Secretary, addressing the Cabinet yesterday, said: 'What people are really saying is they want a ceasefire with rockets still going into Israel.'" Personally I agree with that assessment; even if Palestine and the Israeli army call a cease-fire, I'd bet a year's worth of pay that Hezbollah would break it as soon as they reorganized and figured out how to cause the most damage to Israel.

I guess I'm of the opinion that Israel has the right to defend itself and strike back at its agressors when it gets attacked. Hezbollah messed with the bull, and now it's getting the horns.

You really think killing babies with 500 pound bombs is humane? I am sure Hezbollah rockets or other bombs have killed babies too but it doesn't make it right for Israel to strike back with such barbaric and animalistic force, or as you put it "the horns." Violence isn't going to solve anything over there.

The war on terror has already been lost. A cease-fire now would only make matters worse later. Besides, Israel has agreed to halt all air attacks for 48 hours...

I'm of the opinion of this: Israel should not be allowed to exist as a state...if Hezbollah and the Palestinians are not. They are fighting for the right to exist just like Israel claims to be. It's all one big cluster-fuck and Israel is committing what amounts to genocide. Just like the U.S. did with the Taliban and al-Qaeda. And nobody seems to care. How can you blame anyone? Propaganda has never been spread faster. Israel is saying that Hezbollah doesn't have a right to exist and will 'kill the cancer'...that cancer needs to be removed completely or it will come back. How does nobody else see this as genocide? Propaganda is spread like wildfire about how Hezbollah is, to lump it all up, bad.

All I seem to hear on the propaganda machine that is our media is that they 'might' do this or they 'might' have this. Then the world(U.S, U.K., Israel) is surprised when Hezbollah can launch a missile into Jerusalem. I thought the IDF was almighty and all-knowing. I thought they had one of the best intelligence agencies in the world?? There is no room for 'mights' and 'maybes'. Well, they(Hezbollah) might have used those trucks to transport rockets. They might have used this building to meet and discuss plans. They might have been here. They might have been there. It's all bullshit.

The war on terror is an excuse for the richest governments to say, "Since you can't take care of yourselves, we'll come in and make it all better." What they really mean to say is, "Since you don't have the money to take care of yourselves because we put trade and economic embargo's on your country in anticipation of this, we will come in and control your government and economy until we get so thick in it that we'll be here forever and you'll owe us and pay to us. You know how RICO works, right?"

The war on terror is the New World Order's plan to control and dominate the lesser countries of the world until a one-world government is in place. They created this problem over 60 years ago(This problem. The New World Order has been in planning for much longer.) and have been waiting for it to hit a boiling point ever since.

Personally, I hope the final outcome of this conflict is the disbanding of Israel as a state. They bullied their way in and they should be bullied out. Israel may be able to defeat Hezbollah on the battlefield. They also may be able to defeat Iran and Syria, but not when you lump them all together.

Israel is pushing the boundaries of war, and when something really horrible happens to them, they'll say, "See how Hezbollah uses weapons of terror against our people?" Don't believe that propaganda machine. How could anything Hezbollah does from this point on be considered ANYTHING but defending themselves as Israel claims to be doing now.

George Bush says he wants to see the Lebanese democracy survive, while Dan Gillerman(see Heinrich Himmler) and PM Olmert say that the Lebanese government is comprised of puppets of Syria. So what is it??? How can it be both ways? When the leaders of this state-sponsored terrorism are all speaking different things, how could we ever possibly know the truth?

Israel is sorry for all the attacks that cause civilian casualties. But they say they have to do things like that because Hezbollah is firing rockets from behind homes. Two words: Show me. I don't want to see a black and white video of a truck shooting something towards somewhere from somewhere. I want to see a full color video, starting from about 50,000 feet above sea level. This video should then slowly zoom down to the building and truck behind the house in question that has its rockets pointed towards Israel, and then I want to see a rocket come out of it. Then I'll believe it. I DON'T want to see a truck driving around and someone from Israel say, "See, they could be using those trucks to transport Hezbollah" only to find out it was a member of the Lebanese Army that they killed.

Israel=America. Why do they speak better English than us? How is it that we get along just fine with those that speak our language, but we never seem to get along or understand those that don't? How is it that you are winning a war when there are more civilian casualties than soldiers? How can you back a war that has more civilian casualties than soldiers?

Commentary: Sean Hannity needs a smack across his face for listening to and eating up every word that comes out of the mouths of U.S. and Israeli leaders.

I say we leave this one alone and let the countries involved sort it out. If that means Israel's gotta go, then I say let them go down fighting. It's really way too late for a cease-fire. I'm more worried about the US getting involved in another war that it really can't afford.

Although I think that civilian casualties on the battlefield, well, suck... It's a necessary evil. It's nothing new; it has been happening since wars have been brought to the streets of population centers. Hezbollah might have been going for military targets when they attacked Israel with rockets. Did they kill civilians? Yes. Israel, in retaliation, shouldn't have its military castrated with retarded ROE that don't let them engage military targets in Palestinian cities. In my opinion it all sucks but there's no way around it.

However, I'm a soldier, so maybe I've got a different point of view
