I read something today from economist Adam Smith (of the Wealth of Nations fame) that I found pertinent to our discussion:

"It is not from the benevolence of the butcher, the brewer, or the baker, that we expect our dinner, but from their regard to their own interest. We address ourselves, not to their humanity but to their self-love, and never talk to them of our own necessities but of their advantages."


Point being, Smith felt that instead of relying on classical republican virtues in society, we should appeal to others self-interest.

OK enough of that...I am so damn sick of pre-revolutionary Colonial politics...

Yes, and as politicians are solely self-interested in getting elected...which means getting votes, threatening to withold those votes is a powerful tool. It is the basis of organizations such as the AARP and the NRA.

That's why WE TOKE and WE VOTE works... You don't listen to those of us who toke, we will vote for some Politician who will listen to us.

Of all the ideas I have heard about getting our message out there, the dollar bill idea is great. I just marked all the bills in my pocket. I put "know the truth" on the top of both sides and "marijuana.com" on the bottom of one side and "norml.org" on the bottom of the other. Great idea guys!

See if we could get the average person to log on and discuss their view of marijuana prohibition.
