I refer you to my "where are the college students thread.... If a draft is instituted you can bet action will pick up on campus. "Hell no we won't go!" Damn it's been a long time since I've said that!

Merry Xmas Dedbr! Have a safe Xmas. Can Santa get into your bunker?

I just can't see a draft happening. Voting in favor of a draft for an unpopular war would be political suicide. Plus there'd be widespread disobedience. And sending people who don't want to be there into a war that's going bad...........

I'm sure Cindy Sheehan's head would explode if it passed.

Well, there's one reason Bush would want to implement one...

I agree I find it highly unlikely it would happen, but I'm not against it personally.

I know the argument for the other side (troops not wanting to be on the front lines, etc...) but I'm of the mind that if we are to continue this "war on terror", we need to act like it's a war.

Draft, rolling brown outs, fuel conservation...Make every single American feel it.

Then let's see what happens.

Sounds like Vietnam to me, anybody else?

Bush said the other day in a news conference that we must be ready for a long, protracted war against Terror. With army recruitment down and fewer troops for fewer jobs, how is that quota going to be filled?

Ya'll are registered for the draft aren't you?

Does anybody remember fighting a war on communism? Now were fighting a war on terror-ism, right?

I'm old enough to remember that we've been fighting ism's ever since I can remember, and that's a long time.

Draft? Scary to some? Welcome to the world political arena of today......It's all about oil and stability and money. The Chinese are giving tanks and other arms to the government in the Darfur oil war so they can claim exclusive rights. We take over Iraq to help stabilize the oil business and get rid of Saddam. Just like the Saudis want.......

Why did Dick Cheney all of a sudden fly over to see the Saudis after the talk of us pulling troop's out? Looks like because of the Saud's being nervous about the "stability" of the region.

Two bucks and change for a gallon of gas. Hey we're Americans, we'll grit our teeth and bare it. Folk's in Britian paying eight a gallon. Let 'em move, just so it's somewhere else, huh?

I completely and utterly disagree with the whole concept behind the draft. If Bush really thinks he can attempt to pull that one off, then hes shit out of luck. There is in no way shape or form that anyone would agree to that. Well, there are people out there that would agree, but if its a question of "minority rules", then he would lose that bet by a long shot.

I've had many conversations with people on this subject, and nine out of ten are against the idea. But the question is this, does he really have the power to pull that one off? I highly doubt it.. since no one wants to be in this sad excuse of a war anyways. Now what the hell are we fighting for again? I sure as hell don't want to be forced to go into a war that has no meaning. Thats my two cents. Though, that may not matter to others.. But it sure as hell does to me.
