| It was brought to my attention in one of the debates with my stepfather about the war on drugs that one of the reasons it may not become legal is not necessarily because your country's members of parliament are not willing, or wanting to change the laws of marijuana prohibition, but rather the drug lords do not want it legal. If it is legalized, their profit will be down extremely, extremely low, and do they want that? No. So they send a goon to the outside of your parliament buildings where they wait for certain officials to come out and when they do, they are told that the will be against marijuana legalization, or their families and/or themselves will be killed. (In my house there is no need to break anyone's taciturnity; we are all very open to coversation about it; be as it may, my stepfather and my mother are both non-drug users (except for a couple of beers. ))Anyhoo, that was just brought to my attention recently, cannot deny, that is a large factor in the war on drugs. | |

But to further add upon it, its more likely that the following scenario applies: The gangsters do not pressure the government by threats, but rather the government and the gangsters are in cohoots. Its a known fact that the largest cartels are protected by the CIA. The gangsters make large amounts of money as well as the spineless politicians. -got to love this country

| Senior Member ![]() | ya that's kinda messed up, but if i was one of the Drug Lords, i could see myself doing the same thing, i mean they 'd be fuct if it got legalized. That really changes my hopes because what the hell is the goverment gonna do...not legalize it, obviously, unless they just get the whole freakin army to take out all the gangs and dealers....which is impossible... So now we're scrwed for sure if this is actually happening ![]()

| Hell, it's all speculation. Could be an urban myth. Why stop at the drug mafia, hell, anyone who wants their interests represented hire some muscle and threaten the senators? I can't believe it's that easy. You're talking about very high profile people here, not some cornerstore grocery owner. If a senator was threatened in person you can bet they'd put the squeeze on the local cops to find that MF ASAP. These are people with serious power, and it's going to take more than some bullying to make them vote a certain way. |

| Sr. Member | i dont much buy into it, but doesnt mean it doesnt happen. drug lords may start lossing money, but major trafficing would still continue on a regular basis i think. as far as lobbying...might want to check with your local pharmacutical/oil/petro company. that is one of the real reasons why this herb is not yet legal. these types of companies stand to lose lots of money if hemp replaces some or many of the services they provide.
