Well I just listened to it (It's an hour and ten minutes) and it was time pretty well spent... not surprisingly, the DEA focused most of their debate on harder drugs. The thing they did say about marijuana was that the medical folks say it isn't useful.... uhhhhh then why are there medical initiatives? He also said that smoking a joint had the carcinogens of a pack of cigarettes and that it made you more likely to have a heart attack. Doesn't sound like a good reason to lock you up. He said their agency focuses on traffic rather than possession...of course, still have people locked up for it. To the tough questions, he just said they were enforcers, not legislators, but that they support the current legislation. The folks asking questions at the end pretty much all were clearly against the DEA guy.

I like how Gary Johnson presents a solution to the problem and supports it with factual evidence... I support him 100%!

Asa was irritating me because he wasn't answering the questions or addressing the very good issues that were brought up. It was all about re-wording the question or focusing on one small bullcrap issue, or when all else fails, point at cocaine. But I have to give the guy credit for participating. Usually you don't get that.

I noticed there is a big difference in the tone of the debaters voices.. Asa sounds like he is just repeating something he has memorized.. and Gary Johnson sounds like he is speaking from the heart. Maybe its just a coincidence..

I had the same thought - like well, there goes Asa, just repeating the same crap as always... but of course, that could be my bias speaking. Then again, the man IS head of the DEA... he probably DOES say that stuff every day. In general, his arguments regarding marijuana were pretty weak. He had to drift to some REAL drugs to make his points.
