Default Write Your Elected Officials!

One of the essential things we must do if we want to see marijuana laws reformed for the better is speak our mind to our elected officials. Our senators and representatives cannot read our minds! Each person that speaks out for medical marijuana, decriminalization, and legalization brings us that much closer to our goals. The best part about it is unlike donating to reform organizations (which is equally as important), this is free. Speaking out 2 or 3 times a year can make a real difference.

Above all, for the first time in over a decade, we have a Democratically controlled Congress. We may actually get hearings on medical marijuana and decriminalization. As NORML stated:

Quote:
"With the Democrat takeover in Congress, NORML believes that the federal government is primed, for the first time in over a decade, to hold legislative hearings on the subject of decriminalizing marijuana. NORML is working closely with Democratic leadership on this issue, and expects to see federal legislation introduced later this year to remove criminal penalties on the possession and use of cannabis by adults. However, in order to gather needed bi-partisan support for this effort, Congress needs to hear from you – articulately and often."
So take a few minutes out of your time a few times a year and let your state and Federal officials know how you feel about marijuana reform. Remember, always be polite!

Don't forget to write to your state officials too. You can do so by typing your zip code on the NORML site and simply scrolling down to your state on the MPP site. Thanks for all your help!

There’s some thought that if the government could find a way to make money off of it, legalization would happen sooner rather than later. How many people would be willing to get behind a proposal for a $100 per year Small Scale Cultivation and Consumption card that would permit the holder to pay a $100 fee in order to cultivate up to 12 plants, possess up to sixteen ounces of usable product, and transfer as a gift (not sell) up to one ounce of material to another person? The $100 would be split between the Federal and the State government so both layers of government would get a cut. This would:
-Increase government revenues
-Reduce government spending for arrest and imprisonment
-Close the so-called gateway to other drugs, as marijuana users would not need to buy from criminal dealers
-Destroy the profits of organized criminal drug gangs
What do you think? How much support would there be for something along this line?
