Default War Names

World War One was called 'The Great War' until a greater war came along.

The Gulf War, 'Operation Desert Storm' should be called 'The Second Gulf War' because a large and more costly war was already fought there in the 80's. The U.S. calls it the Iran Iraq war. Remember the U.S. navy escorting tankers? The missle attack on the Stark?

Vietnam, the french also fought there, do they refer to their war as vietnam? Vietnam 1 or is it mixed in the the U.S. involvement?

Default 5 months later

Over the past few months I have developed a cold patient desire for this country to destroy Iran. That country has been a thorn in our side for 30 years and needs to be humbled, or taught not to kill civilians. Iraq isn't a concerned, that country has already learn their lesson and a strong show of force might be enough their. Iran on the other hand, there might require a stomping.

For a few weeks after I couldn't sleep, I was an emotional wreck and I would brake down into tears. I watched the funeral for the NYPD Chaplin and couldn’t help from crying, not sobbing mind you.

Now, I'm just angry, very angry. That behavior, the murder of civilians is not acceptable. Not in the world I want to create. It is obvious the peaceful, orderly, ethical and civil society we are trying to create in this country, is threatened by militant ignorants. We in the U.S. have done allot in the past 200+ years to advance civilization away from the slaughter of innocence, but apparently much of the world still lacks basic decency.

Over the past few months I have developed a cold patient desire for this country to destroy Iran.

Kinda strange, this desire has been building in me for a few years. I don't like the feeling. I feel that they are in the wrong for causing me to feel it.

Iraq isn't a concerned, that country has already learn their lesson and a strong show of force might be enough their.

You think? I don't think that they have learned crap except international diplomacy and how to play political games. I don't have a problem with throwing them into the mix with Iran. Again, I don't like how I feel about this.

That behavior, the murder of civilians is not acceptable.

Its like your brother is an alcoholic. You cannot allow them to keep doing the same things that cause pain. Jack-Slap them until they see the light. (ducking)

We in the U.S. have done allot in the past 200+ years to advance civilization away from the slaughter of innocence, but apparently much of the world still lacks basic decency.

Great thought!!!

But.. How do we enforce "OUR" decency across the globe?

Iraq: I may be wrong, but cooler heads within their military know full well we will destroy them again if they try to defend against an invasion. Half of their army ran away the first time. I say, all we need to do it put the pressure on and start bombing high level comand centers. There's a good chance we could force and a coup. One we do that, we open up the Iran/Iraq border for as as possible invasion route. Iran would have to devert much of it's military to cover the border....

I think that Iran is the true target of this war. All the current talk of Iraq in the Media is a faint, to draw attention from Iran. That country needs to be humbled, the government needs a change and they need to stop with the terrorism. Iran has a long history or abuse and we need to remember that.

decency: It's hard to enforce beliefs on others, people tend to chafe at it. The best thing we can do is live by our cultural ideals. We haven't done it, and out popular culture is very much the opposet it. We need to do more to help the people of the world. The U.S. has an incrediable wealth, unmached in the history of the world. We need to do more to bring the rest of the world intoline with our standard of living.

By what - teaching them to be wasteful pigs? If everyone in the world had the same standard of living (and mentality) as many Americans, the environment would be depleted even faster than it is and fresh water would be much scarcer.

Maybe instead of showing others our great way of living we should look at theirs and learn. Americans should learn that luxury is not neccessity and wasting food (or anything for that matter) is one of the worst things you can do.

When September 11th hit, I got really, really mad at the U.S. I mean, my tax dollars this year went to help a beuracracy bomb a country into the stone age (thereby creating more martyrs from relatives of those killed) in response for a group of suicidal zealots hiding out in the backcountry?

I remember reading that the number of civilians we killed in our bombing of Afghanistan exceeded the number killed in the World Trade Center back in December.

Here's the article:
http://www.counterpunch.org/blumcasualties.html

September 11th prompted an almost obsessive study of US history on my part. Watching the panorama photos of Nagasaki and Hiroshima on the web made me think "what the hell have we done? Have we no shame? We're no better than that infamous madman with the turban. We're just the biggest thug on the block so the United Nations supports us."

It's sad. It's sad that we have thousands of years of recorded human history and we're still fighting over lines on a map. It's sad that there is still lines on that map.

Since that first gut response of sorrow for our sad condition, I realized slowly that the answer doesn't lie in politics. We don't need more laws or better leaders or what not, we just need to evolve socially. The whole human race can be brought up by the social evolution of just a few. It doesn't take much to stop the madness.

My friends and family know that I don't support anyone's war. If I were a person with more integrity then the average then perhaps my opinion would carry more weight. It's not my fault that the world is ****ed up any more than it's anyone elses. But I'm working on making myself a better person so I can lead by example without having to bully people around. I want to transcend this schoolyard behavior that results in crushed skulls, children without legs, and depleted uranium scattered around third-world countries.

I mean, I try not to get so upset about all this, but it's hard not to. I have too good an imagination to believe that our enemies are that different from us. If you look at the wide picture and try to understand what's going on in a context greater than that that the media feeds you, you might feel the despair I feel too. And it's not anger at what happened in the WTC, it's anger at ourselves for being at the top of the pyramid and perpetuating this stupid ****.

I haven't checked this thread for a week or so; and here is what I have to say.

Niteshift: Do you research everything that people say? If so, how sad. I do not care about the number of exports and imports that my country has. How's this for a statistic: 99.9% of me doesn't care about your statistics.

BongZilla: You rock. You have said what I was about to.

HappyMan: {Flame Extinguished}

Daniel: The last thing 5.8 billion people want is to have Americana forced upon them. Everyone has a way of life and a social mentality that makes them unique. Basically, you don't enforce your decency across the globe.

"Do you research everything that people say?"

No, but I'm always willing to spend 5 mins pulling facts when people make asinine statements.

"How's this for a statistic: 99.9% of me doesn't care about your statistics."

I'll give you one back: 100% of me thinks that your position is unrealistic and shows no real thought.
