| It has been a long 5 months since the tragic events of 9-11. How have things really changed? Has your life been impacted by the events of the world? How will things be different in our children's lives from the events that we saw and continue to see unfold around us? Are we back to feeling "normal" as people? Or do you do like me and wonder while watching the opening ceremonies at the Olympics when the next bomb is going to go off? Right around 9-11, there was an outpouring of support and desire to help. Have you done anything to help since then? Did you folks that said that you were going to give blood do it? Just curious. Daniel

| I live in Canada and see it from a different light than most Americans. Having been up the towers twice within the past 6 months before it happened it was a little shocking to realize they were gone. Although by now the shock has worn off for me, I am planning on heading to NYC again since I love that city so much. It will be hard to look at the skyline without the WTC. I was watching the Superbowl halftime show and caught myself thinking what if a bomb went off right now? It's scary to think that we have little control over things like that happening. A thought like that would not have crossed my mind pre 9/11. I applaude the Bush government for taking such swift action against Al-Qaida and the Taliban, but I am a hesitant to claim any sort of victory yet with the 2 heads of each organization still at large. I hope the best for all of North America and our fight for safety in our homeland. | |

| Personally, I couldn't care less about what happens to America since I don't live there and have almost nothing to do with it. But I do feel sorry for the people that got murdered. Nothing has changed at all for me and most people since September the Eleventh. I was watching FOX News channel when it happened, and I said to myself "How about that. Oh well, what's on Cartoon Network?". I never had and never will have any intention of getting involved. Pardon me if I am being a bit full-on, but Americans tend to overestimate their sense of self-worth. Would you care as much if 3000 people were killed in Peru? Thailand, maybe? China? No. You wouldn't, and you are lying if you disagree. So when you say 'How will things be different in our children's lives' you mean how will American children be affected by what has happened. The rest of the world remains and will remain unchanged. My 2 Cents. | |

No. First, you are pardoned... I totally understand where you are coming from. Exactly the point of the thread. I think personally, I would feel about the same. Hell, I didn't know any of the people that were killed, but it did change me. For good or ill, I know not. The original purpose of this thread was to find out if people acutally did what they said that they were going to do when it first happend. There was so much "goodwill", sympathy and a desire to help. People wanted to volunteer and do "stuff". Just wondered who actually followed up on it. |

| well my friends dad was the pilot of the plane that crashed outside of Pittsburg. when i saw it the morning right as i was leaving for school, i thought nothing of it. i didnt know anyone that died so i didnt pay much attention. i havent done anything to support our country, but i am just wondering how long thiis war is going to last. and if it is going to get a new name once it is finished. i think its kinda gay how there is World War 1, World War 2, Gulf War, and all these wars, and then this one is Enduring Freedom. blah, im out of it ill shut up now Peace

| "Personally, I couldn't care less about what happens to America since I don't live there and have almost nothing to do with it." Then you have either a narrow world view or no understanding of economics. Just over 9% of your countries exports go to the US and 22% of your imports come from the US. If the United States disappeared tomorrow, your economy would take a direct hit. Further, your biggest export "customer" is Japan, over 19% of your total. They also provide 14% of your imports. Since much of their economy is based on the 30% export to the US (and 19% imports), their economy would be a disaster.... which means your exports to them would drop. Do we even need to analyze the European Union, which is 14% of your exports and 24% of your imports?????? Be as cavalier as you want......bottom line is that if you understand economics, you should care what happens to the biggest consumer market in the world.

| "i think its kinda gay how there is World War 1, World War 2, Gulf War, and all these wars, and then this one is Enduring Freedom." Quick history lesson........ wars aren't usually named until they're over. The outcome usually makes a difference. Since the media got more instant than it was, the Operation names are better known. Most people remember The D-Day invasion, but fewer remember it was Operation Overlord. The Gulf was was Desert Shield, then Desert Storm until it was over. Grenada was Operation Urgent Fury until it was over. Panama was Operation Just Cause (although it has a ring to it, so it has hung on). World War I wasn't called that until the second world war....before that it was called a variety of euphamism, but usually not the "world war". Of course, if what we will call it is the part you find most worthy of your concern............. |
