| Here is a little factoid that seems like it belongs in this thread. When the President gives his State of the Union address, the chamber is filled with all the members of the House of Representatives, the Senate, Supreme Court and Cabinet........ except one. For decades, the practice has been to keep at least one cabinet member that is in the Presidential line of succession out of D.C. during the address. This way if something happened, like in the Clancy novel Sum of All Fears, and the building or DC were attacked, at least one successor is in a safe location. The "chosen one" is usually a mid-level successor, like the Sec. of Agriculture or Interior. It's rarely a top one, like State or Defense, nor is it the bottom end, like the Postmaster General. Just thought I'd throw that in. ![]()
