Default Offence instead of Defense

This is going to be brief...

If there can be a feminist movement which changed the views of how society treats women. If there has been a civil rights movement to make life for minorities equal with whites, then why does the movement for drug leagalization not take the same course in arguing that WE the drug users of the world are not given the same right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness as non drug users. We should have just as much freedom as the next man who does not smoke or snort.

The legalization movement should not focus on pot, but all drugs.

A clear and organized offensive is needed in the war against the drug war. We cannot win this war merely by defending ourselves in courtrooms around the world. There must be a number of people willing to go out in mass and smoke in protest of the drug war.

We cannot simply dedicate ourselves to posting online hoping to reaffirm within the drug community that drugs are not bad. Take the word to the street and preach. Write for your scholl newspaper promoting weed, bring the subject up in class.

Lets make 2002 the year of the "Drug Offensive"

Interesting thought.

A lot of people say "legalize all drugs" instead of "legalize marijuana".
Unfortunatly i can't agree with that, but that's my personal opinion.

The reason those other movements happened so fast is because they were more ethical issues, dealing with mass numbers of people and suppression. The same thing sort of applies to marijuana/drugs, except that they are not life, nor a necessity (unless you use medicinal marijuana), they are just a "plus".

You won't die if stop using marijuana, or be supressed/forced to leave a crappy life (well that's debatable ).

But if you were a slave, or a female with less rights than a male, than you would (back in those days) be supressed, and lead a worse life....

IndoorGanja- Good idea! Or we should all move to Canada.

Ikari- Smokers and people who do other drugs really are oppressed in similar ways as minorities and gays and lesbians. Like these other groups, we are marginalized and sometimes have to hide our tendencies. We are labeled as bad, as supporting terrorism, or whatever. We don't have the same freedoms as other people. Even if we can smoke in our own homes we still have to beware of others. Even though NOT smoking won't cause one to be supressed, smoking may. It's not only about legalizing drugs, but about making drugs use (especially marjuana) socially acceptable. The fact is that there exist drug users, just as there exist women, homosexuals, and other minorities, and all these groups are oppressed for who they are. The fact that marijuana is labeled "illegal" gives people a further excuse to discriminate against us.

blue21 - I agree, the illigality of the substance puts a bad image on us, no doubt.

However, what i was trying to say is that the -reason- there isn't more of a push for legality of marijuana by EVERYONE (not just tokers) is because it's viewed more as a "social addition" rather than "suppression of general rights"

I really wish it was legal, or at least decriminalized...

Ikari - I agree, that's how it's viewed, and that's part of the problem.
