| Happyman, i been to some large cities(D.C, Kansas City, St. Louis, Chicago and others...) in the US, i seen american poverty. There are poor people everywhere, but that could end, i dont know exactly how or when, but it can improve at the least. But if you want numbers 49+ million people are extremely poor here, that 1/3 of the total population. How many are there?

| This thread was originally on what options can be taken to counter terrorism; so, that is what I will address. Maybe it is because I am young or maybe it is because I am a radical liberal, but I simply do not see brute force as an intelligent way to conquer terrorism. I believe we should be backing a serious multi-pronged campaign. In this campaign should be some type of involved diplomacy, cooperation among all intelligence and police agencies, and equitable economic policies. We should also create stronger regulations for international banks to insure that terrorist organizations cease to prosper off of profits made from money laundering. Also, fighting homelessness in impoverished nations would go a lot farther in fighting terrorism than dropping million dollar bombs on them. Violence is usually not a necessity, especially not in this situation. ![]() | |

| Hello everyone. I need to start this off by saying I am real nervous posting here. This is a great site, I try to be helpful over on the other side (cultivation), and I really don't want to offend anyone no matter what your viewpoint is, ok? I came to this particular forum after reading it had been closed, and wanting to see why. After reading the posts available, I can understand why this is a very hard forum to participate in, and especially to moderate. Emotions tend to run high, but I am glad it was reopened because to stop the discussion is kind of like giving up hope, so I hope the healthy debate continues. Now, on topic. What are our options? Well, imo our president has pretty much declared the events of 9/11 an act of war, so I don't really see any reason for any court to try bin Laden. Send troops, find him, kill him...simplistic? Probably. Barbaric, maybe. That is what war is. Quote:

10 cents an hour may not be much to us, but in a country where a good living is 200 dollars a year (just an example), then you look at it a bit different. The reason we have so many illegal's in this country is because compared to their own countries wages, they make a good living over here, even doing the agricultural scut work that we won't lower ourselves to do anymore. I have no idea if I am making sense anymore, so I will end this now. It is only my opinion. Plains | ||||||

| Just think if EVERY government used all its resources for "good". Remember the war on poverty? Instead of going in to kill a few "terrorist who want a change in the political world" They should buy every poor law biding citizen a 3 bedroom house and healthy food. Cut every politian's salary in half, then stop spending billions and billions and billions on stupid wars- i.e. terrorism, drug etc. and start spending billions and billions on and for the people. People tend (especially in America) to assosiate poverty with crime(products of the system- when they sell drugs and make their money the government takes it and wastes it on the war on drugs or terror or 800$ hammer. Then the dealers spend whatever money they have to stay out of jail, so who is really selling the drugs?) Instead of punishing these people give them a house and food. If you crunch numbers of how much wars have cost. then crunch numbers on how much i would cost to feed starving children and buy everyone who's poor a house and an opportunity(word of the day) then you would see its possible. Why does our government refuse to see that or what am i not seeing? Rethinking Peace. if you have war you cant have peace. Quote:
