This is what my family wrote concerning the Pledge of Allegiance.
Take into consideration that we live in the Bible Belt.

I have no objections whatever to the recent court ruling concerning the Pledge of Allegiance. It’s a matter of historical record that the Pledge had the words “under God” stuck into it in 1954 at the request of the Knights of Columbus – undoubtedly as a reply to the godless Communists – as it had also been altered in 1923 to make it refer specifically to the United States and the U.S. flag, a development that reputedly angered James Bellamy, who wrote it. If it can be changed so much in a century, how sacrosanct can it be?

How much can a country depend on true allegiance to a pledge that is forced upon schoolkids? Does this not smack of communism, with groups of likeminded citizens being forced to repeat phrases vowing loyalty to the state?

I expect the existence of God to be legislated forthwith in the Senate, even as the members chant the Allegiance loudly in the background. Perhaps Christianity can finally be instituted as our national religion.

This whole affair brings about great anger in me. I watched Connie Chung accouse the man responsible for this case of not being an american. I watched a senator tell the athiests that they can either deal with god or leave. I watched bush say that our rights come from god. Since when did it become ok for the government to force religious beliefs down our throats? I [am] for removing In God We Trust from our money. I've decided that from now on I am going to take a black marker and cross out In God We Trust from every paper bill I receive.

pledge of allegiance?

none of that in canada
same here.

But our money does have "Deus Seja Louvado" (god be praised or praise god). This started in the late 80's when Sarney was president. I have never really thought of it, but i'll start crossing it out maybe i'll start a trend or something.

DM: Does brazil have some sort of regulation banning the state from instituting a national religeon like the "good 'ol u s of A?"
Just imagine how all of this looks to (for lack of a better word) the islamic terrorists who are convinced that they are at war with christianity? They're just going to want to blow up more stuff after this.

I am agnostic I suppose...although I've been gradually making the transition to atheism. This whole one nation under god thing is sooo misunderstood. Nobody's telling you which god this nation is united under!! To me, my god is nature, to you, your god is maybe jesus, satan, allah, or who/whatever. The ridiculous thing about making the pledge unconstitutional, and removing in god we trust from our currency, is that the meaning simply means that we are one nation united each by our own creators, and not some particular, said being. Furthermore, by banning the pledge of allegiance, you are taking away people's right to freedom of speech and religion, because as we all know, nobody has to say the pledge, it is 100% optional.

The Pledge of Allegiance reminds me of some brainwashing communist chant.
