alright, when people think of the American Civil War, they think of slavery. But thats not really what it was all about. It was more about states rights than anything else. Did the states have the rights to make slavery legal. That was the issue. And really, the southern states were stupid for splitting from the US. They already had slavery legal, and for the north to change it, they would've had to have a 2/3 vote, which they didn't have. However, as soon as the southern states split, they had the majority, and made the changes. Now, im not saying that slavery is good; on the contrary, I think it was one of the most evil institutions ever created. But with this new law looking to be passed in Nevada, there are going to be some serious issues approaching. If it passes, there is little doubt in my head that the federal government will go in and shut down all of the cannabis cafes that will be opened. Now I see extreme similarities between this and the issues that led to the civil war. Is it not possible that some states could split from the union based on the priniciples of state's rights? Anyone?

I had been thinking the same thing yesterday while posting in the thread on the Nevada bill, but didn't want to say it outright.

The war in my opinion will not be fought the conventional way of guns and cannons, it will be an economic war. California would be sure to jump in. We've been getting dicked around more than any other state about our states rights to pass medical marijuana laws.
The feds are already disposing of all this nuclear waste crap against the nevadans wishes, and if they choose to not allow their marijuana law (which they most certianly will) I think that will be the breaking point for BOTH western states.
The irony of this all is that republicans supposedly support smaller government which includes states rights over federal. In practice, they are doing the exact opposite.

I was thinking of the same thing last night, the whole civil war comparison thing. And I wonder if it would be possible for the states to "nullify" the hemp tax Act of 1935 (I believe that was the name), and other similar laws, as John C. Calhoun did with the "tariff of abominations"

I don't think you are going to see a civil war per say, but what is developing in Cailfornia with the Bryan Epis case and what may soon become a case in Nevada are states right vs. federal rights. The 10th amendmant to the constition states..."The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to the states respectively, or to the people. " I can certainly see this going to the supreme court in one way or another.
The "civil war" begins when the people protest to let the courts know that states have a sovereign to pass laws under popular vote without restriction from the federal government.

I don't mean to be a spoil-sport, but I think you guys are underestimating the sloth of the common man. Civil war? Unless soldiers start raping women in the streets, the common man isn't going to stand up and offer a dissenting opinion.

People are boring as a whole and secretly terrified of life. They're more afraid of having a realistic, emotional connection with the world around them then they are of terrorist attack, and because of this -- they're accomodating, passive-aggressive complainers who are destined to be eternal victims of the men who seek to abuse them.

Sorry guys, but I don't buy it.
