Default concerts and protesting drug law now ILLEGAL

A Senate bill (S. 2633) and two House of Representatives bills (HR 3782 and HR 3782) have been portrayed by their Congressional sponsors as an "anti-Rave bill," but the language in the bill says, "Whoever knowingly promotes any rave, dance, music, or other entertainment event, that takes place under circumstances where the promoter knows or reasonably ought to know that a controlled substance will be used... shall be fined under title 18, United States Code, or imprisoned for not more than 9 years, or both."

freedom of peaceful assembly shall not be violated.

you can't stop the drugs. that's been shown. 'reasonably ought to know' could take on any kind of meaning.

there's drugs at almost every concert. even the wbcn river rave. the smell of ganj wafts through the air regularly. the promoters of these concerts could be jailed for 9 years!!

this cannot be allowed. i will move the F out of this danm country if this goes through. it would break america.

It won't pass, I hope, but that's all I or anyone for that matter can do is hope. But I have faith enough to rely on our leaders to be smart enough to realize how far that could extend. It clearly states
Quote:
"...any rave, dance, music, or other entertainment event..."
As you said, it is obvious that it could mean anything. If it does get passed then I'll be in line whicha man

Hope is one thing we can all do.
Contacting your elected officials and strongly criticising this, is another.
Send this to all the Editors in your area. This could well set precedence toward ending free speech.
A thing even the most prohibitionist rag will fight.

Then vote appropriately in the coming Congressional Elections.

For one thing, let these people know we are watching.

Vote people.
and continue to hold these events.
If the Local police will not move to enforce. the Feds cannot.
They do not have the resources.
Nor should we ever allow them to gain those resources.
I challenge local L.E.O.'s to stand up for what is right, should this pass, and enforce those laws they are responsible for.
State and local.

A bad law need not be enforced simply because Despots put it on the books.

"No law can be enforced if the populous will not be governed by it"

Ask Martin Luther King and Ghandi.....the folks of South Africa and the East Germans.
There is much you can do.
Like protest damn it!

Get out there now, with all the people you can find who are angered by this, placards and signs and make a stink! March and demand to know where this is freedom!
Before you no longer can.

Default From the same bill

"There is authorized to be appropriated $5,900,000 to the Drug Enforcement Administration of the Department of Justice for the hiring of a special agent in each State to serve as a Demand Reduction Coordinator"

That is a LOT of money.
To stop people doing what the moral (But vocal) minority deems inappropriate.

They are one step closer to hitting rock bottom. This will never work, as marijuana prohibition won't.

did a little hunting and found a letter to forward on to your rep and senators...

Quote:
I'm writing to warn you about the dangers to civil liberties and
property rights in S. 2633, the Reducing American's Vulnerability to
Ecstasy Act (the RAVE Act). This bill, which could be voted on very
soon, would allow the federal government to fine or imprison
businessmen and women if they fail to stop their customers from using
or selling drugs on their premises or at their events. The RAVE Act
unfairly punishes business owners for the crimes of their customers
and is unprecedented in U.S. history. The federal government can't
even keep drugs out of its own prisons, yet this law fines business
owners hundreds of thousands of dollars for failing to keep people
from carrying drugs onto their premises.

S. 2633 is a danger to innocent businessmen and women, especially
restaurant and nightclub owners, concert promoters, landlords, and
real estate managers. Section 4 of the bill goes so far as to allow
the federal government to charge property owners civilly, thus
allowing prosecutors to fine property owners $250,000 (and put them
out of business) without having to meet the higher standard of proof
in criminal cases that is needed to protect innocent people.

Health advocates worry that the bill will endanger our nation's youth.
If enacted, licensed and law-abiding business owners may stop hosting
raves and other musical events, out of fear of massive fines and
prison sentences. Thus, the RAVE Act will drive raves and other
musical events further underground and away from public health and
safety regulations. It would also discourage business owners from
enacting important measures to protect their customers. By
insinuating that selling bottled water and offering "cool off" rooms
is proof that owners and promoters know drug use is occurring at their
events, this bill may make business owners too afraid to implement
such harm-reduction measures, and the safety of our kids will suffer.

In short, this bill is too controversial and too broadly written to be
passed without debate. I urge you to do everything possible to stop it
from becoming law.

Is the Government really that far outta touch with the citizens of this nation?? This is beyond rediculous... This is so far outta left field it shouldn't even be up for debate..

Unhappy

i honestly feel really sorry for people in america, it has turned into a totalitarian madhouse... soon they will make everyone wear a collar around their neck that explodes if you take drugs (not the so called 'legal' ones that they reap huge profits from of course)

I agree with you wak.
I posted something about how the gov't wanted to ban "rave toys", glow sticks and anything else that glows under a black light. Because it was said it encoreaged the use of E. I mean c'om folks, you got to fight. US is in a sh!t creek without a paddle.

This RAVE act. is trying to control what can you do to have fun.

other entertainment event, that takes place under circumstances where the promoter knows or reasonably ought to know that a controlled substance will be used...
This includes house parties? Its a entertainment event, the promoter (the host in this case) knows people are smoking a little pot in the garage, so the gov is going to put him in a cell to rot.

The gov't is just trying to blame somebody else for its ineficiency(sp?). I bet if senators didnt get paid a crap load of money, it would be a lot nicer in america or anywhere else with senators...
