Default USA Today Issues Blistering Attack on Bush's Politics

The front page of the USA Today national newspaper issued a blistering attack of America's standing in the global community and cites Bush's politics as the most measurable factor for the poor standing.

Excerpts:
"Meanwhile, in an April poll for the Council on Foreign Relations, based in Washington, Europeans proved highly critical of Bush and what they label his unilateral approach to foreign policy: 85% of Germans, 80% of French, 73% of Britons and 68% of Italians said they believed that the United States is acting in its own interest in the war on terrorism...

New Yorker Julia Magnet, a journalist who just moved to London, found that out when she decided to throw a Fourth of July party for British friends. Between grilled sausages and chocolate cake, her friends launched an attack on Bush and the United States. They called Bush a "homicidal maniac" and "stupid" and the United States the "world's biggest terrorist."

And 44% have no clue why Bush is invading Iraq.

I just hope everyone keeps the same mindset when election day comes.

"said they believed that the United States is acting in its own interest in the war on terrorism..."

Well, this brings a big fat "DUH" to my mind. I am definately not for our gung ho war on terror, but of COURSE we're acting in our own interests... no one ELSE got attacked on 9/11

If they had stated WHAT the specific interests were, then I'd definately agree, like "they believed that the United States is acting for its oil interests in the war on terrorism..."
because oil has nothing to do with terror.

What strikes me as most significant about this article is the blazing criticism of George Bush. Up until a very short while ago, it would have been "unpatriotic" to go against the rhetoric of the war on terrorism. The USA Today is the most widely circulated daily newspaper in the U.S. For those that who live outside the States, I have to think most of our citizens see Bush as a war monger and an isolationist that will only continue to shame this country in the international community.

I realize this is off topic, but it strongly parallels what marijuana activists here to believe to archaic punitive system of government. For a national daily to stand up and publicly question the world's opinion of us is the same as Gov. Gary Johnson coming out publicly for the legalization of pot. (*Although Johnson will probably find his political career over).

I personally think it will trigger a wave of public discourse in the U.S. against the establishment that is seeking to chip away our civil rights and freedoms.

We are certainly living through some of the most tumultuous times. Even your average "dumb Joe" is beginning to question what's going on here when an 80-year old man is forced to stand for hours in an airport security line, patted down twice, and then when they snoop through his wallet the old man snaps something to the effect of "you won't find a rifle in there." Bang Zoom, in rush the gestapo. They cuff him and drag him off to jail.

This is just the tip of the iceberg of what's happening all around us in this mania to fight terror with terror. And apparently they see "the enemy" in each and every one of us.

We're only half through with Mr. Bush's first term of office. Call me silly, but I don't think they've set up everything to yield it to the Democrats in 2004.

Maybe years from now maybe those of us who survive the madness of president george will be writing books, like they now do of hitler's reich.

man this is so true, a couple weeks a ago a music critic (for a nation wide newspaper) was supposed to go to chicago or something for a music festival and he said something on the lines of 'you won't find a rifle in there' and they draged him to a room, scared the crap out of him, he lost his flight and send him back to Brazil he said in his article that he is never going back to us as long Bush is in charge

And all i can say is that USA today is right

Impeach BUSH!

Sort of like the lady with the 4 month old boarding the plane - she had three bottles of breast milk and they made her taste the contents of each bottle to make sure she wasn't hiding explosives inside. So this contaminates the bottles, so she has to breast feed on the plane. Not really a major crisis, but a huge inconvienience, and a little silly.

JJ, DM, and Conine your all to correct. Its quite sad whos being searched and for whatever stupid reasons. Thats absolutly uncalled for that they made her taste the contents of the breat milk to make sure she wasn't storing explosives. You won't find a rifle in there is a simple joke, look what extent they have gone to, to make the planes feel safe for some people. IMO The terrorists have already won, we don't need to play little games to act like they are losing, because there not.

"They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety." Benjamin Franklin-
