I can either present as, or actually be abrasive and harsh at times.

Towards NOT accomplishing that I try to be "diplomatic" without totally mincing words.
I was generally writing that with the idea numerous people would possibly read it, so I could appear polite and diplomatic. Don't want to craft the impression that I run around callin people rednecks...like some redneck..

Of course they're saying that on TV. They will deny it, undoubtably on the advice of their attorney. But they admitted it at the scene and that was in turn relayed to the media.

I'm secure in what I'm saying. I've talked to officers that were on scene. And don't think that those interviews were not taped.

Do you see a requirement for it to be phoned in or "official"? It says communicating it to ANY PERSON with intent to deceive, mislead, or otherwise misinform.

She is a person. It was intended to mislead or decieve.

I don't think she came unglued at all. I think she acted very reasonably.

In fact, I was suprised to see the director of a race/religion hate crimes research program in Univ. of California commend her on her actions. He saw nothing racist about her actions at all and supported what she did 100%.

I truly don't think it would make much difference.

I notice you've mentioned this several times. It appears that you believe that they DID say what they are alleged to have said. Am I correct?

No. But you seem to forget, the dogs DID alert on something in the cars. That, combined with the rest of the facts, warranted caution.

You also forget, that at about the same time that they were stopped about 100 miles from Miami, while en route to Miami, they were arresting a terrorist suspect IN Miami.

They may have been the victims of bad timing, but everything fell into place.

The statements made, were if nothing else in extremely poor taste, and in a worst case scenerio, criminally liable.

There is one other thing I thought was questionable, and I wanted your opinion on it Nightshift,

Did you find it odd, that the Tipster in GA was appearing on National TV as it was going down? Not only was her full name there, but her occupation, Son's name, and the city they live in.
Now, I'm no expert, but I thought that was quite irresponsible for her to appear, especially prior to these men being cleared of involvment in a terrorist plot.. I would think the national media would practice more responisbility in a potentially very dangerous situation.

That was one of my dad's first observations. Even before they were giving her name, but enough info to figure it out.

My guess is that by the time they actually released her name, they had a fairly good idea that it was looking like a hoax.

I'd bet that while she was appearing on all those news shows, there were FBI agents just out of camera view. I'd also bet that had this turned out to be a full fledged terrorist incident, she'd have been in Witness Protection faster than you could say "Pack the trailer, we're blowing this popstand".



As for the media acting responsible............. Please don't get me started. Damn few people have a lower opinion of what the media calls "ethics" than I do. You should have seen the reports from the local stations. This is a medium market, so the cream of the crop isn't here. These guys were pathetic.

No...not really. it was racial profiling.

I live in Georgia. Im a white guy who has long hair, a dog and a 4 WD pick-up truck. If anybody could be steroytped as a "redneck" it would be me. However the stereotype wears off once I open my mouth. (AT least i hope ! ) I don'town a gun, I don't drink beer (I do keep an empty can of red bull in the back - state law)

Georgia invented the Redneck at the turn of the 20th century. It used to be a "fightin word" because it only meant the most backward super baptist hick. (Ca look this up in the "ictionary of american cultural heritage"- thats where I read that. I didn't make it up.)

The meaning has gone global now, more or less meaning, to me,
one who revels in their lack of diverse cultural experiences.

That lady in Calhoun got all upset - many praise her judgement - I still argue it was impaired. The more this was a hoax or a misunderstanding ( a good word falling out of general use) the more I will make the argument of poor judgement. Even her son saw the truth.

either this belongs in the World In Crisis section or in the Current Affairs section, either way, to me both them are the same

so i was watching the news and heard all about the 3 students in Florida getting searched and so forth..., then the hospital that they were learning at told them to train else where....

in my opinion, i would find that lady who told the police that she thought they were saying that stuff and just ****ing curve her ass.

one of my good friends is from Yemen, right after 9/11 he got fired from his security job, and was told to leave his school a month later.

i understand the whole fear thing, but seriously, this **** is giving them a reason to become terrorist, cause we're ruining they're future by banning them from schools and jobs.

thats how i see it. just thought i post this, i dont know why, what you all think bout the florida incident?
