| Obviously there are many more critical issues that factor into who will make the best President but this one is not exactly trivial... "Ever since California voters became the first in the nation to legalize medical marijuana in 1996, the state has faced unyielding opposition from the federal government, which insists it has the power to prohibit a drug it considers useless and dangerous. That could all change with the next presidential election. As the candidates prepare for a May 20 primary in Oregon, one of 12 states with a California-style law, Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois has become an increasingly firm advocate of ending federal intervention and letting states make their own rules when it comes to medical marijuana. His Democratic rival, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York, is less explicit, recently softening a pledge she made early in the campaign to halt federal raids in states with medical marijuana laws. But she has expressed none of the hostility that marked the response of her husband's administration to California's initiative, Proposition 215. Sen. John McCain of Arizona, the Republican nominee-in-waiting, has gone back and forth on the issue - promising a medical marijuana patient at one campaign stop that seriously ill patients would never face arrest under a McCain administration, but ultimately endorsing the Bush administration's policy of federal raids and prosecutions".......................... For the full story - Next president might be gentler on pot clubs .

| Thanks for the post. I feel confidant that Obama will change marijuana laws in the U.S. for the better. It will be a small step. But a giant step compared to how Bush's administration against us. I've seen statements when he has said that he will decriminalize and stop all raids. And for anyone, if prescribed by a Doctor, he says it will be no different then being prescribed pain medication. If a Doctor fills that it is in good interest of the patient, then the DEA or anyone else can take that from them. Hillary. I don't know. It's a slippery slope. We can just look at Bill's time, and nothing really happened. McCain. Will be doing the exact same thing Bush has been doing on The War on Drugs. ______ I'd also like to point out that Bob Barr,(Libertarian, just announced today that he's running) will be going against McCain. He is the new front runner. He is a lobbyist for Policy Project(MPP), and fights for the rights of states to set their own medical marijuana policies. Mike Gravel is another libertarian going against Bob Barr. I have just heard that he will decriminalize, if not legalize marijuana. I know their chances are small, but they are all fighting for the seat in the big house. |

| I also think Obama, if elected will help this cause. It's a big deal to me too, considering Michigan votes in November for medical marijuana, and I have a good feeling about it this season. I don't want to deal with federal raids in my state...

![]() Keep in mind that the raids you refer to affect the owners of the co-op's / dispensaries and occasional landlords. Rarely are 'users' directly affected. And yea, I'll put good money on Obama eventually being the President that finally euthanizes the Feds... | |

| I don't think any of the candidates give a rats ass about medical marijuana. |

| Yes they can and will. They'll just label the "public" as misguided and need to be led to the light. |

| They have been arguing with it and trying to lead us to the light for the last seventy years. It ain't working. If a politician starts talking against herb nowadays, some people will actually laugh at him and ask him to stick with the important stuff.....Like the issues....... ![]() Some Where In Ded Land......... |

| I'll believe this when i see it. i think he will be just a tool in the white house for the most part, just for the simple fact he has flip flopped on this issue several times. there's two videos on youtube one hes telling the difference between decriminalization and legalizing and did a fine job of it. the other he claims he doesn't know the difference of the two playing stupid. he's worse than Kerry when he was running. I'm all Ron Paul myself, and he will get my vote come election day. that is if i can do a write in. if not i think i will just not vote. the problem with the democratic party is they have no backbone what so ever.
