| A What??? What does that mean? Just a few definitions to make the reading easier: Adulterated: A compromised specimen. A specimen found to have been tampered with by adding a foreign substance not normally found in urine. BAT: Breath Alcohol Technician. Can do all that a STT can do and is qualified to give a confirmation breath test. CCF: Custody and Control Form. Sometimes referred to as a COC (Custody or Control form). This is the paperwork on which everyone documents a drug test. Usually a 3, 4 or 5 part carbonless form that the donor must sign acknowledging that the specimen given was from the donor, and that there was no adulteration or tampering of the specimen. C/TPA: Consortium, Third Party Administrator. A company or person hired by an employer to manage a random pool and/or a drug testing program. Collection Facility: A place where their main business is collecting specimens for drug testing. Could collect saliva, hair, blood, urine, whatever the employer or court asks for. Confirmation: A second alcohol test to confirm the first “screening” test or a Gas Chromatograph/Mass Spectrometer test to confirm the results of a urine screening test Collector: The person conducting the specimen collection. (don’t fuck with this person). Consortium: A pool of names on a list for the purpose of drawing names for random testing DER: Designated Employer Representative. The person who the employer has put in charge of receiving drug test results and reports. DHHS: Department of Health and Human Services. Only labs who are DHHS certified can process DOT regulated specimens. DOT: Department of Transportation. Some jobs are designated as Safety Sensitive positions by the DOT. These jobs are tested according to DOT regulation. Donor: You; the testee; the source of the hair, urine, blood or saliva; the person being tested. GC/MS: Gas Chromatograph, Mass Spectrometer. A machine used by laboratories to determine the exact chemical properties of a given specimen. Used for confirmation of non-negative specimens. Laboratory: The place where a specimen is sent for analysis. MRO: Medical Review Officer; a doctor specifically trained in collection procedures and laboratory analysis. This person will review test results to determine that collection and laboratory procedures were done correctly and submits a final report with the results to the employer or court representative. Monitored: A collection done in a room where all the exits cannot be secured and/or all the water sources cannot be secured. Mostly used in multi-stall restrooms, restrooms with more than one exit/entrance and restrooms inside locker rooms. The Monitor must be the same gender as the donor unless the monitor is a medical provider or medical technician. Non-Negative: A result of a specimen that has been screened, found to be not negative, but the specimen has not yet been confirmed as positive. Observed: A void that must be watched by another person. This person could be the collector or a 3rd person. The observer must watch the urine flow from the body into the collection container. The observer must be the same gender as the donor. Primary specimen: The part of the split specimen screened and confirmed for the presence of banned substances. SAP: Substance Abuse Professional. Someone specifically trained in substance abuse counseling and treatment. STT: Screening Test Technician. A person who is qualified to give a alcohol screening test, usually involving saliva. This person cannot give an alcohol confirmation test. Screening: An initial test done to determine the presence of alcohol (blood) or banned substances (urine, saliva, hair or blood) in a specimen or the breath. Secondary specimen: The part of the split specimen put in storage for the donor for possible future use. The donor can request this specimen be sent to a second laboratory for confirmation testing of the initial laboratory’s findings. (donor pays). Split specimen: A single collected specimen that has been split into a primary and secondary specimen. Void: The act of urinating. |
