Default The eleventh commandment that should have been

200 years of religious persecution, murder, atrocities and near genocide could have been avoided had the eleventh commandment been something like this.

"Thow shall not only be tolerant, but respect thy neighbors religion, or lack there of."

Now , I'm not faulting only Christianity.....almost all religions have in common the fact that if you don't 100% believe in their religion you will never be allowed into that form of paradise. As a matter of fact its really the only unforgivable sin.....Blasphemy.
I will say this though, the fact that this is not the case just adds more evidence (in my opinion and probably the opinion of most atheists) that the bible is not in fact divine but very human in the fact that many errors in judgement are present.

What are your opinions on this?

It's there, unfortunately, most do not have "ears to hear"

Love thy neighbor as thyself, Love each other as I have loved you, Love your enemies and pray for them, Do kind things to those who that hate you, Turn the other cheek, give thy coat to him who would sue you for your shirt, etc, etc, etc. The teachings of love are there, only no one "hears" them...

Peace and Love

What about the teachings that preach 'stone all homosexuals'?

Religion, like everything else in this world, isn't about the message that it preaches, it's about the message we choose to hear.

The bible preaches both messages, it's entirely up to the listener which he acts upon.

They got rid of the most atrocious stuff when they wrote the new testament to make it more palatable to people in more modern times. Kind of hypocritical seeing as it's supposed to be the infallable word no?

Incorrect.

People in modern times have chosen to rid themselves of the OT, despite what it says in the Bible.

2 Timothy 3:16 NAB, John 7:18, John 1:17, John 10:35, among others.

So the new testament is not a new interpretation of scripture but an actual omission of scripture that is deemed archaic and/or barbaric?

To understand the New Testament at all, you really have to understand it in context.

It's a lot more than I care to, or an capable of, explaining in a single post. However, a good place to start would be with the Greco-Roman Empires and the actual history of the Middle East (versus 'Biblical History').

But no, the NT isn't supposed to be a 'new interpretation' of the 'OT,' imo, there isn't really any 'supposed' to, to it. The NT and the OT were written independently of each other (each book in the NT and OT, actually), which is why we have such cross-book contradiction.

Jesus in no way supposed to make a new religon or new testament, He along with His followers considered themselves a direct continuation of the Biblical Hebrew religious traditions.
This is witnessed by the fact that the name Christianity (followers of Jesus the Christ's interpretation of the tradition, just as there were followers of Hillel's and Shammai's interpretations) was given by others, after His followers had given themselves the nickname "the Way" (compare with the Tao).

I was quoting Jesus Trocisp, Where stoning is concerned, he came upon someone who was to be stoned, and his words were "let anyone without sin cast the first stone." Apparently no one was without sin for they all dispersed at that point.

The teachings of Christ were all about fairness, love, equality, and compassion.

The books of the bible are from a number of sources as has been mentioned. The old testament books existed before Jesus, the new testament books are about Jesus. It is still all up to interpretation, and everyone seems to be able to read into it whatever they want.

I would say the eleventh commandment if there is one would be Jesus saying at the last supper "I give you a new commandment, Love each other as I have loved you".

Let those with minds to comprehend, comprehend...

Peace and Love
