| I have wanted to pose the following question for some time now. What is your favorite spiritual teaching? Doesn't matter if it was Christ or Krishna, or Brahma or Buddha, or for that matter, it doesn't matter if it was a rock star or a poet or a philosopher. A scientist or the Dali Lama... I just want to know what you define as profound teachings. "The story is old, it's been told by many scholars..." Everlast -- Today, Watch Me Shine Ironically I was thinking of what to write next, and the iPod spits out that line. It fit so it will be the first. It's doubly Ironic because I have another Everlast lyric I had planned on using. The religious tradition in my consciousness tells me there is no such thing as a coincidence. My all time favorite religious quote comes from Jesus, and I have used it many times here before. "I give you a new commandment, love each other as I have loved you." --Jesus To me that encompasses the core teachings of Christ, and in my opinion, he refined the previous ten to a very simple concept that was up to far less interpretation. If you are loving everyone, and everyone is loving everyone else, wickedness would cease to exist. No one can make anyone follow that commandment though, it has to be by conscious choice. However, I believe that when Jesus said that paradise existed all around us, he meant that by our choice we could make paradise "here" and "now" which is all that really exists anyway. If you hungry and your near me yo, you gonna get fed If you sleepy and you need a place to lay your head Then come take my bed I'll sleep on the floor 'Cause these are the times that friends are for --Everlast -- Next Man That lyric coming through the ipod an hour ago is what solidified my choice to post this thread tonight. It fits so well with Jesus' "new" commandment. What is your favorite tidbit o' wisdom? Peace and Love
