| A more far-future-thinking question than the longer thread below: Will atheism ever be the majority? It's growing alarmingly fast, and in countries where atheism is dominant, crime and unemployment are low, education levels and average wages are high (norway). Is the world due in sooner or later?

| Atheism as I understand it might become the majority within the next century. I expect so, anyways. However, never underestimate the power of conviction. There will always be something as powerful and dangerous as religion. Ideology, nationalism, culture. The human mind loves leadership.

| Yeah, no one alive today will be when it happens. The problem is that religion is indoctrinated into children at a young age, and some (evangelicalism, for example) restrict their children from even going to public school, and brainwash them at home. These will be passed down from generation to generation until eventually more and more of them start rebelling and thinking for themselves.

| I would really doubt it. The big religions are just too well organized. They would start a jihad if we ever elected an athiest president. |

| To be quite honest there is no doubt in my mind that atheism will dominate, and soon. It seems that any hard core religious freaks are in the older generation now and kids these days dont share the same religious values (if any) that the older generation. So if i had to guess I would say that atheism will be dominant within the next generation. Could it be that people are finally realizing that they are being brainwashed by the church (whichever church that may be) |

| Ive rethought what I said and I want to make a correction. I do think it will be dominant, but I think it will take several generations, not just within one. But this generation (the younger end) seems to be the beginning of the overall rise in atheism. |

| It would be nice if there was a rational discussion about religion. Its a question that needs to be answered even though there is no way to prove a god doesn't exist. There are ways to prove if he does or did exist he seems to be a lazy worthless bastard.lol |

| I don't think that it is a matter of atheism. There are only a few types of people. Zealots Sunday Christians Easter Christians People that don't care Agnostics Atheists Just because someone doesn't care doesn't make them an atheist. Atheists are people who make a conscious effort to disprove the existence of something they don't believe in. Seeing a Zealot and an Atheist argue is better than watching Jerry Springer. So, no atheism will never dominate any more than radicalism will.
